Just read that the pressure in the line was 12 times higher than it should have been, and the pipes were not designed to hold that high of pressure.

My question is, gas company didn't know this ? Didn't check before working on the system ? Sounds like some incompetence going on out there.

12 times higher? I don't think that should be liability on any homeownr's part. That's gross negligence on the gas companies' part. Wow.

Could you imagine if your water pressure went up 12 times the normal? Yikes!

Normal pressure in a water main is around 40-60 psi, maybe 80 on the high side. Here in Illinois we pressure test them at 150 psi for a good hour to make sure it can hold fluctuations before putting into service. Done many myself, cheated on many myself too. :)
