Shame you can't find a chilli cheese dog here like you'll find at a coney island in Detroit.

It (BBQ) is very much a regional thing, which is very cool. There is, or was*, a BBQ place in DC (Georgetown) that had a wide range of the popular styles of BBQ, and did a pretty good job of it, too, as I recall.

As an aside: in the NC "Piedmont" region, the word barbecue is pronounced, roughly, bobba-cue, as in "Get you some bobba-cue". I always liked that :) The soft southern accent of that part of the world has always been musical, and magical, to me. :)

I worked across the street from Portillo’s on North Ave. in Addison, I’ll. in the 60’s. Hot Dogs and fries were the venue.. it was a little hot dog stand in the middle of the Big R’s parking lot.. I’m 80 years old..

Cool man. Did you know that stand originally had no running water. He ran a hose from the shopping center to the trailer. His brother Frank, owned Browns Chicken, of which I spent 16 years of my life managing some here and in Kansas City. Got very acquainted with KC BBQ. Gates and Sons was some of my favorite on Troost st.

Man, I got stories about Portillos but that's for private conversations.

Dang and here i thought you just "worked" for the outfit. Also not surprised they had franchises in Kansas City....
They even mentioned that in the movie

Yeah, there are some places in Detroit but just not like Chicago. Downtown in the Motorcity is really coming back however. I moved to Indiana in 2012 but recently was back in the "D" and took a tour around Downtown. I was shocked at the development. I lived there most my life and know the area well. Heck, I used to ride the bus downtown by myself at age 12 for drum lessons at Grinnell's on Woodward Ave. back in the late 70's. I've see it during its lively years through the decline. Now, its breathing again down there and there are new places and areas that I don't even recognize. I guess it was a matter time.

As far as Portillo's... When I first got to Indiana I was like, "Why are there cars wrapped around the place to buy a Hot Dog?" Well, now my teenage son work's at the Merrillville, IN location..... and lets just say that after trying the Italian Beef sandwich dipped, Now I get it! Tasty!

    Dave and "D" locals:
Check out Arkins Sweet BBQ on the east side Southfield at (roughly) 12-1/2 mile. It's part of a strip mall, next to Starbucks. Everything I've tried there is good

Also, check out Wood Pile in Clawson south of 14 on Main/Livernois. VG!

That's my Toyota 4x4 fishing and hunting truck and pothole jumper. Jesse that there is my lucky Turkey foot not real but a replica of a big ol Tom foot brings me luck.

A good example, I've gotten pretty lucky dodging the crater size potholes that have been wrecking havoc on a lot of people's front ends this spring, plus I haven't been stranded in the Mississippi flood waters yet came close last weekend though.
