    WTF is a diet beer?!?

it's all that stuff where back in the day they would only sell "near beer" on Sundays.....Now they just call it "Lite Beer" and sell it EVERYDAY!!!

Near Beer is not Light Beer. Light Beer has the same alcohol content as it's heavier siblings. Light Beer is just brewed with adjuncts like corn or rice or just plain sugar like good old cane sugar or corn syrup to increase alcohol yield without increasing the malt content. This means they can cut the actual malt load on the beer so the calorie count gets cut but they can still get the 3%+ that actually makes it beer. You end up with a very light beer that is less than 200 calories (sometimes less than 100) but still 4-5% alcohol.

Near Beer in most states is less than .5% alcohol (different in some states but fed standard is .5% so .6% or higher is legally beer) and therefore is not legally an alcoholic beverage. But the only reason "near beer" even exists as a term is because of the Volstead Act which doesn't apply anymore because that's what started Prohibition. Has nothing to do with stingy Puritan blue laws.

Modern "near beers" are your O'Douls and the like. Light/Lite beers are not near beers nor are they reduced alcohol, small ales or low-point beers. But "near beers" aren't beer. They are CLOSE to being beer but not actually beer. They are categorized as non-alcoholic malt beverages.

    1. Relax John it was a joke as to Marvins Diet Beer comment
    2. Most lite beers are 3.5-4% standard beer is 4.5-9% ABV with most at the 5-5.5% mark.
    3. In my state you still must be 21 to purchase the "non alcohol" O'Douls and such
    4. Do you remember Chelsea it was a soda pop with .05% alcohol no need to be 21 to buy it back in 78-79 whenever it was:)

    Joe,
That is a really nice looking plate of food. What did you put on the salmon and I assume you cooked it on the Green Egg? Squash is a wonderful side.

I am a TEC infrared grill man. I have had a TEC Patio II (2nd Generation) since 1998. I cook everything on it. It sears meat like no other grill.

When I am cooking for 2-3 folks, I use a small Solaire Anywhere infrared grill which is also portable. It has even been to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

So they way I get a great crust without burning is using spray oil and constantly turning. This lets the outside get a stunning crust on it without burning. Just a little season salt, garlic and old bay. The salmon was lightly smoked while cooking with apple wood.
Top it off with some good old fashioned Tabasco!!

The veggies have a Balsamic reduction and melted butter.

The cheese is Coastal Cheddar from England

Man this was a yummy dinner

I like that infrared, I bet it’s oretty automatic to get that crust I have to work for.
