Or maybe I should just give it away as Karma on here like I do with all my other stuff?
Maybe it's time for you to get a new nickname?

    technical knowledge?! what's that!?
    There's screws. You gotta screwdriver?

    ;)

Actually, in all seriousness, the screws on the cover that need to be removed are
often marked with an arrow and the ones that shouldn't be removed are marked with an X.

Security heads on the screws? No probs. You should have a kit like this anyway :)

Classic troubleshooting/repair methodology. Don't give away all of our secrets!

I'm no mathematician, but... doesn't Half-Life 2 simplify to Life?

Per @Tony M's suggestion, I counted the teeth on the underside of the tray with it open, from the point where the "last" tooth was resting in it's drive gear. It's the same on both sides, 53 teeth. So not a skipped gear/tooth as far as I can tell.

I think I'm done futzing with it. I'm just going to use it with it's gimpy CD drawer/tray and get on with life. I'm sure with my luck as soon as I get it back in the rack it'll start having issues reading discs and it'll be time to replace the laser! :)

Thanks for checking for me! I was hoping that was the problem. Sorry it isn't!
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

I got an email reply from B&W Support, and they informed me that replacement parts for the 1072 are still available: http://www.bwgroupusa.com/bwgroup-parts/index.php/rotel/cd-players/rcd1072.html

Looks like after tax and shipping, the total for the CD Loader Assembly is $130.

So, it's nice to know that it's available, but I have to consider the amount of money I want to put into the player.

From a financial standpoint, it might make more sense to just save that $130 and put it toward the latest object of my desire, a Marantz SA-14S1.

I think when I land a new job, I'm going to celebrate by getting that 14S1 for myself.
