Have to side with John on this. Going to the beach with little kids is a PITA. I'm not a beach lover to begin with, add to that the hour spent prepping just to get out the fargin' door and I'm one cranky SOB.

Yeah, they never did a 2+2 Corvette, nor an SUV morph.

    ... so far.

Heck, up here, we see almost as many freaking Maserati sedans as we see Teslas... which is to say a lot. :|

I grew up on the beaches of Carlsbad and Oceanside CA. We would hit the beach almost daily for years. I still have duck feet (fins) scars on the tops of my feet. We would go and have fun, drink beer and other party favors. Bonfires till midnight. It was a SoCal blast.

Now to me the beach is a bummer, traffic is insane, can't have a beer and most places won't even allow bonfires anymore. The crime that has moved into the beaches is just out of control.

As for the cold water, yeah that is the one drawback to SoCal. lucky if it hit's 72. Just look at the current flow and that say's it all.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

For the record, I like Miatas. When I bought my Focus ZX-3 (2000) the Miata was on my short list. I couldn't fit all four of us in it, though, so the Focus won out.

The ZX-3, with a 5 speed manual, was a great car. I put over 180k miles on it, passed it along to our daughter & son-in-law, and they had it close to 250k when fatal rusting finally claimed it. The rear suspension kind of divorced itself from the structure of the car, so it was time for euthanasia. :(

My girlfriend purchased a new 2017 Miata convertible last year. I am just 6'2" and it is a real labor to get in and out of. Nice little car though, with it's paddle shifters and all.

But yes, it is a chick car.

I feel your pain and agree with all your issues. We had three little ones so the memories are all bad.
Personally I stay away from the beach in the summer. Too much traffic and too many people. The day after Labor Day and through October the weather is pretty much the same and you get the beach almost to yourself.
    That’s our M.O. anyway.

I think this boils down to separation anxiety from your audio gear. As the kid-count goes up, the hobby time goes down.
