The local junk shop --

has a pair of Altec Magnficents on the floor.
Imagine my surprise.

They may or may not be for sale; I did get their owner's contact info.
Now I have to decide if I want to call the guy.

Freaking.
Altec.
Magnificents.

In.

Borrowed image -- the Magnificent is a (barely) housebroken morph of an Altec Voice of the Theater. More or less an A7 in a walnut box.

I likes me some Altec sound.
    Y'all knew that.
It would be cool to have Magnificents.
I think they're a little smaller (shorter) than my Duplex cabinets.

    Buy them ASAP.
Not Tom, or Trey, or Jim
    Main setup:
Speakers are one of three, Mission Freedom 770 IV’s, Polk LSi25’s, or Polk SDA-CRS (stock XO, SL2000’s, Blade/Blade model). Electronics are as follows: for the LSi’s and SDA’s, a Technics SU-v75 acting as a phono preamp, into a Yamaha RX-v665, into a Crown XLi800 power amplifier. For the Missions, I have a Lafayette LR-1100. Turntable is a Technics SL-3200, with a Shure M97xE. Cables are generic/soon to be replaced garbage.
An old post I found on AK, from 2013.
I've always thought the goal of high end audio was not to have your neighbors bang on the wall and say, 'Turn that darn music down' but to have your neighbors bang on the wall and say, 'Tell your friends to go home and you can practice later this week'.

So I visit my local thrift/junk stores regularly, and have come away with some really good deals on pictures, furniture, tools - you name it. Bur never hi-fi. Is it regioanal, maybe? I'm in PA, 20 miles out of Philly.
I started out with nothing and have most of it left.

I'm used to finding my hifi at the dump, but we don't have a swap pile at our nearest transfer station here :(

You don't get excited about gear often. If they interest you that much, get them. Besides, if they are that rare and with the crowd you run around with up there, I doubt selling them at a later date would prove to be anything difficult.

The speakers you looked at today may be the speakers someone looked at yesterday and are coming back to buy today. If you hesitate, they will be someone else's prize.
