How often does your credit card number get stolen on the Internet

I buy virtually everything on the Internet, and at least once a year I get a fraud alert from B of A. I got one last night, and now I am waiting a week for a new card to arrive. This must be my fifth or sixth one in the last 5-6 years. So far, it hasn't cost me anything other than inconvenience, but it is a pain. I do have another card, but I mostly use that on Amazon. My B of A card is my Internet card.

Weird timing Bud. Mine has been stolen twice in the past 6 months or so, can't remember how long ago the first one was but I just had it happen again a few days ago. I was getting alerts on my phone for two online beauty websites for $120 and $108. I called the bank immediately and told them I'm not the one buying freaking makeup at 2AM.

Just got a new card about 3 weeks ago... :(
It sucks that I have to work hard for my $$ and others just get to take it away with virtually 0 consequences...

Three or four times. Twice was around the time of early membership and orders through third parties with Amazon. Once I figured this out, I started buying gift credit to make my purchases.

Around this time I also realized that a Visa check card seemed unnecessarily risky, so I canceled that.

Never had to pay out of pocket on any of these fraud cases, but man is it inconvenient having to replace a card.

On the web...none, but once in China town in San Fran.

When you order stuff on the internet, no matter from who, there is a spot to check off if you want them to store your CC info for future purchases. Do not check that box.

I know it's a convenience thing, but your leaving your CC info in everyones system when you do that and it will increase your chances of that info getting snagged.

I received a furniture store cc in the mail 20 years ago. I was in Penna. and the store was in Michigan, so naturally I called them to say that I hadn't ordered a card. They said they can't cancel it unless it's me. Catch22 at it's best.

Long story short, they wouldn't cancel it, someone bought $6000 worth of furniture, I received a bill about 6 months later from a collection agency, which I of course, disputed. Took a long time to prove it wasn't me especially since they used my SS#. I have no idea how that got that.

So far, every time my card gets hacked it is a charge in some off the wall place that triggers the fraud alert. This time it was Chicago. Tony??? :)

No, it was about $70 at Kohl's. LOL

What is the point of stealing CC numbers, and going cheap? I guess that was a test to see if it could be used.

Your correct on that one, plus large purchases draw attention. When mine was snagged, they ordered a bunch of small electronics from China, maybe 3-400 worth.
