Monitor 7 Crossovers

Does anyone have a step by step or at least a shopping list/link of what capacitors are needed to redo crossovers? Looking for middle of road ~$50 or so. Open to options and opinions.

Start by putting a "1" in front of your budget... And don't forget about the resistors.

LOL. I’ve heard lots of people have done them for around $50 or so. Also heard don’t have to do resistors. However I’m open to seeing what you suggest.

The values are printed on the components.

    Caps:
    12uF 100V or higher
    34uF 50V or higher

    Resistors:
2.7 ohm 5 watt or higher
4.5 ohm 5 watt or higher

Use either Sonicap Gen I or Clarity CSA for the 12uF. The 34uF shunt cap many will say isn't important, but I disagree. However, you could use a cheaper cap there if you have to.

For the resistors gets Mills, either 10 or 12 watt. Yes, you absolutely need to upgrade those.

^^^^ Plus one. You can use a Dayton cap for the 34uf if you want to keep your budget down.

This is the dry-fit picture of set of Monitor 7s I did a few months ago.
    Mid-tier components.

$140 in parts, including binding posts. PM me if you want the list.

    Noticeable before and after performance?

How much of a difference is there in price and performance?

    Absolutely.

    Note.
I have done a pair of Monitor 10s with Dayton caps. While they did sound better than the old, dried out caps that were in them originally, the better quality ones made that much more difference. They got Sonicaps before I gave them to my daughter.

I went ahead and got the parts. Did the same build as Tony, less the posts as mine were still nice.

Install seemed easy enough. Hooked them back up and everything worked! Haha. I was nervous as heck!

I will say they sound so much more balanced. I’m really looking forward to seeing what they sound like once worn in. Wasn’t a drastic difference from before, just more balanced. Should I get Better quality once played more?

    Without question.
