Lots of goodies above. I'll add my two cents (or two records) ....

On the latter, the lead guitar parts may sound a bit familiar. Ernie learned his licks from a gent who spent a bit of time in the band ... Jimi

Wow! Many great posts, one is missing though...my great girlfriend and sadly gone now, Teena Marie, start at the beginning and work through her catalog, she wrote, produced, arranged just about everything she put onto the studio tape.

I started not caring for her more contemporary pop stuff later in her career, then after listening over many sessions, I saw the magic, especially in the arrangements, chills, goose bumps! Grooves that only a true lady of soul can knock out of the park! She can take ya for a ride, rock, blues, soul and beyond

Don’t forget the late great Bobby Blue Bland! His recording of “Turn on Your Lovelight” with the equally great, late John “Jabo” Starks on drums is stunningly good . And there’s much more . . .

Didn't they use that song for the movie E.T.?

I am a white boy who grew up in a house with a father who was a Motown and blues fan. I wore out my dad's needle with Ike and Tina Turner. Tina sings with such passion. She seem to put everything she has into every song. I consider her one of the greatest female soul and blues singers of all time. Warning Ike and Tina Turner are a crossover. They have aspects of soul, blues and rock and roll. No soul collection is complete without Ike and Tina.

Believe it or not THIS IS THE SAME SONG (and they both came out the same year in 1975) Dee Dee Sharp married Kenny Gamble of Gamble and Huff fame from Philadelphia International records. You want Soul Music? Look at that label.

10cc wrote and made the song first and then Dee Dee redid it and blew it away.

Dorothy Moore was huge talent and it is a shame she didn't go farther. This is one of my favorite soul songs.

I am making play list. Where do Sly and Chaka Khan fit? I hate this French "Genre" junk, it's confusing. Did anyone say "The Four Tops"?

I thought I would post this here as it seems fitting, even though it is just a cover version of a popular song. In 1967, Spyder Turner released this version of Ben E. King's "Stand By Me" in which he does amazing imitations of the vocal styles of several soul greats. I hope you enjoy this cat's versatility. B)

Get ya one of these...Atlantic Rhythm and Blues 1947 thru 1974 box sets, https://www.discogs.com/Various-Atlantic-Rhythm-And-Blues-1947-1974/release/3868258

Check out those recordings, all from the original groups/singers before the more popular radio stars covered them. I have the 14 Lp set, if you love analog and this music really demands it, sniff one out at $100+ shipping, the Cd set is cheaper, this should be in every lover of this type of music.
