This brings me back to 1969. I can hear Johnny Cash's song "Boy Named Sue" on the radio.

I always wanted the knights and vikings, but I only got this horse and the gold armor. I used to dress Johnny West and/or Geronimo as a knight. After 35 years, I ordered the viking online, but I shipped him to England for Christmas a few years ago. :p

This thread got me thinking of all the great stuff I had as a kid... I have decided to see what I can do about acquiring some of these again so my son can play with them too. Today I found a pair of Tonka Dune Buggies at an estate sale for a buck apiece, and Jayden hasn't stopped playing with them yet.

The originals are part of the slab of concrete my dad poured for a garage floor in South St. Paul and today, my son gets to play with them. They are in fantastic shape.

This thread has been a trip down memory lane. Every time I look I see something else I forgot about in my childhood. The riding bikes one got me thinking how me and my neighbor used to ride down to the local Shell station each week to get a new image of one of the Detroit Lions players. It was fun just trying to get them all.

    34ueszyw2rp7.jpg

Back then it was all about riding around on your bike, playing in the backyard creek and going all over the place - no worry from the parents. Of course, you could always hear your moms voice from what seemed like a mile away when it was supper time.

"I think that's my mom calling... gotta go get supper. See you guys later!"

    Good times.

Of course in the winter, it was Legos for me. Endless hours making things and destroying them.

And I had one of these growing up. One of the first "remote" helicopters of it's day - the "Veritbird". I played with that thing all the time trying to see what it could lift off the ground.

    That helicopter looked cool!

I think I wanted one but never got one.

All the exploring I did when young, I never thought mother nature sneaking up on me and having to go #2 3 miles from home. I guess tree leaves were an option back then. I can't remember that far back to clearly when it comes to nature breaks but Man did I also ride a bike for miles and also followed every creek for a 3-mile length or more.

Same here, Mom would have dinner at sundown. I'd better be there or I'd go to bed hungry. ;)

I agree, GREAT TIMES! o:) Times of Innocent exploration and skill developing.

This is on it's way to me as of today...
    45lz7u231ms3.jpg

I have decided to go after the top ten toys I remember from my youth and get them for my son to play with as well. I think this might help us bond a bit as well as give me a chance to build a solid foundation with him going forward. He seems to really want whatever daddy has in his hands.

My dad, on the other hand just does not get it. For years now, I have been asking him for my trains and slot car sets I had. Even volunteered to help him dig those out, but he keeps dragging his feet on it. He was never really that into being a father to me, after my parents divorced way back in 1973.

I had the 1975 Sizzlers II Silver Circuit Set with the chrome cars and the "fat track". A Camaro and a van (The "Vantom"). :p

I don't remember my set having as much track as in the video below. :D
