But I may ditch it and the B&K and simplify with an integrated that has digital inputs with dac and usb.

If I may suggest holding off on ditching the 200.2 until you try to few more options. I use dthe 200.2 and the ref 50 for a few years together and it was nowhere on the order of tinny.....it's hard to get away from that B&K sound.....especially for the price on the used market.

They don't come up for sale often but a B&K AVR 507 would be worth looking at.

I would dig up some reviews before considering that certain piece. Just a quick glance tells me sound quality is not it's strong suit and software is iffy.

The B&K avenue is still your best bet for your budget. Be it a processor or receiver.

Have you actually ever heard it ?
I think you would be surprised.....
Not saying it’s a piece of audiophile equipment - but it certainly sounds fantastic for my intended purpose of streaming Spotify and Sirius xm ....especially for the price .... it can also be connected to a better preamp/dac and used as a “player”...
    Very versatile piece ...

    Nice.

Needless to say it mates well with the 200.2. Hit me up if you need any assistance with the menu setup. It's somewhat self-explanatory, but the designer(s) did over think a few things.

Just seeing this thread. Whew, Ray, you had me worried there for a minute! lol
Glad you ended up with a Ref 50. I love my B&K gear. There were lots of good recommendations here, glad you got in. I think you're going to enjoy it with your 200.2.

Never, EVER, sell that 200.2 until you've had plenty of time to audition any possible alternatives. And, even after you think you're sure, sit on it s'more!

These things are fun to play with and program if you're into it. First order of business will be a factory reset. Put me down along with GMC if you have any questions. I love tweaking these things. At first, I hated the ergos, but now I love love love the simplicity. All the good stuff is behind the scenes.

The sound should be smooth and laid back pairing with your LSiM with out being too looses or soft. Just know that the DAC is a bit limited compared with what's out there today. I've recently been experimenting with an add-on USB DAC, mostly just for computer connectivity. Jury still out, but initial impressions are very favorable with B&K, Polk, and Douglas Connection, with an AQ Forest USB.

Congrats - making some fun moves there, imho, and you really seem to be making strides in your path to audio junkiedom.

Thanks Scott... I know you are a fan of B&K, there is just so much of this stuff I want to try. Good tip on factory reset. I have heard these can be complicated for non engineers :) .. all joking aside appreciate the line for tech support.

You might be headed for a roomful of standby/test gear if you're not careful. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Another cool thing is that if you find the B&K combo to be too laid back, you can swing your Parasound into the mix to liven it up. I find the Parasound combos to be a bit more forward than B&K. I like both just fine, but the split combo could be an option for refining your sound. Just something to think about and have fun with.

    Well I am almost there.

I had the P5 front ending the 200.2 and it was great but I missed the P5 in my main system. I will still need a way to play music from my computer though the 50 and it doesn't have usb so I will need to figure out something for that. Short term I can use the chomecast and stream.

Man, the HRT Music Streamer HD blew my sack back.
But I still don't know whether it was just going USB or the MSHD itself.

Currently experimenting again with my first standalone DAC, an earlier Cambridge unit, the DacMagic. With USB, it's nicer than I remember with Coax (Black Cat Veloce), but I still think the MSHD edges it out in imaging refinement. That AVR 507, Polk RT25i, and MSHD combo was captivating. Before USB, I found DacMagic to be cold, thin, and sterile, but it's pretty good in the computer system with an AQ Forest USB cable. The DacMagic Plus is supposed to be better?

At $250 for a MSHD, there are lots of options, perhaps some much better. I was looking for something small and bus powered, and had been wanting to try one of the HRT Music Streamer DACs. It's older stuff, but then so's the rest, so...

The imaging experience with the MSHD let me see that there's more to digital than my usual criteria - smooth, full, clean, articulate, control. With a taste of imaging, I got a sense for the soundstage depth to as degree. It's a bit spoiling.

Word to the wise re : USB audio. To keep things cleanest, I installed a second, dedicated USB 2.0 card in my computer solely for running the DAC.

There are a number of USB to spdif converters available at a wide range of price points. Alternatively, you might look into replacing you computer's sound card with one that has an optical out.

Ref 50 arrived today and is immaculate, all original packaging and remote. I have not taken time to do a factory reset and will work through that at some point. I did connect the Chromecast and played for awhile. WOW it sounds really, really good and for 2 bones delivered what a bargain. Thanks for the recommendations.
