I'm about to get a new subwoofer to replace my faulty PSW404. Can someone guide me on what's the better choice based on power, quality, reliability, etc. Thanks

SVS or HSU for the win. Subwoofers do not have to match speaker brands. There is no benefit in doing so.
    HT SYSTEM-
    Sony 850c 4k
    Pioneer elite vhx 21
    Sony 4k BRP
    SVS SB-2000
    Polk Sig. 20's
    Polk FX500 surrounds

    Cables-
    Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
    Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
    Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
    Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable

    Kitchen

    Sonos zp90

SVS sub owner here. Experienced with a Polk PSW 505, SVS NSD-12, and now a SVS PB-2000. If you are looking for great subwoofer, try the PB-2000. This subwoofer really shakes up the house in a good way. Sounds really good, especially for movie watching. It gives me goosebumps when it hits those low frequency hard!

The SVS NSD-12 is no slouch though. Nice and compacted and delivers really good bass. The NSD-12 definitely sounds better and stronger compared to the PSW505 and is smaller.

PSW 505 is good for the price, sounds nice and deep, but when you start pushing it, its starts to make a chuffing noise. Something felt missing though when listen with it. I was expecting more.

I have the PB-2000 paired with the Polk S55 tower speakers, S10 rears and S35 center speaker. Loving it so far.

My experience and rating from the three subwoofers in short:
    1) SVS PB-2000
    2) SVS NSD-12
    3) Polk PSW505

    Welcome to Club Polk!

Do you want another Polk sub or are you open to other choices. How much do you want to spend, and what is the rest of your system.

A favorite sub around here are SVS, good bang for the buck!

I have an old Polk setup as you can see on my signature. I prefer to have Polk but also open to other brands. I have a low budget for the sub, around $400. Thanks

I have a Velodyne CHT 10 And I love it, I personally think Velodyne would be a good choice. Then again though, I haven’t used any of their newer stuff, so I’d ask around before going with them.

As stated above, SVS and HSU are both great choices, and I heard Dayton makes some decent subs, but I don’t know about that last one, just been told by a friend.

Like cfrizz was saying that SVS she posted is an amazing sub and it's only $49 above your budget. Most of the SVS and HSU will be above your budget. Might I suggest the RSL speedwoofer 10s? At $399 and free shipping with a free return and like 30 to 45 day I think free trial period. That would be a good option at your budget. That really is an amazing sub for the size and money. I just want 20hz or below beasts or otherwise that would have been my choice. It goes down to 25hz and I can tell you by listening to them at a friend's setup that they do sound great both with music and movies. For your budget your not gonna do any better and I'm afraid even though I love polk speakers they're subs can't compete at the price point your after but that RSL can. Great sub for that amount of money

    OP--$400 budget?

What would you say to TWO Polk PSW505 subs? I recently purchased a 2nd for my large room setup, and love the combined sound.

    Good luck!
