Are you looking to utilize this for air travel? I use to go to bike stores and get the Boxes they come in, we used to fly to Utah, or Colorado, from Germany buy high end mountain bikes ride em bring em back in the box and resell them on the German economy paid for a lot of the trips that way.

I wonder how friendly they are now a days on that in the luggage fees would be pretty pricey. If they get a hold of that Thule it won't look as nice as it did the airlines will beat it up, assuming your purchasing this for air travel.

I too got a box from a local bike store. No issues and they’re free! Used lots of duct tape! Had an upcharge from the airline, which you would anyway even with the Thule.

I've got a travel case, bought it with the Roubaix purchase. Had used boxes like everyone else previously. I will say, it definitely provides more protection, but it's a big sucker. IIRC mine is an Iron Case. Happy to sell it to you if you're really interested in one LOL!

It will be air travel. Main reason I'm looking is because the "shipping it" route is expensive. $260 each way.

For $600 I can fly it and be done with it. For the Southwest flights we take, it flies as a checked item, so no extra $$.

I have the box it came in and I priced it through FedEx, I have a discount through my account and it was $260 each way.

For that money I would rather buy a case. Especially since I will be flying the bike around the country more and more over the coming years...

It will also fit both my cross bike and my mountain bike.

@upstatemax you need to look into Bikeflights.com. infinitely cheaper shipping, and reliable, I have used them several times.

That said, a case makes the whole process easier with them as well so I wouldn't try to talk you out of that. They have pricing based on case brand even, it's a science.

Would seriously make you a great deal on my Trico Iron Case if you have any interest, just shoot me a PM.

The first time I ever flew, I moved from Vermont to Sarasota, Florida in 1982. My airfare was $69 and it cost me an extra $5 for the huge box with my bike in it. :p

I did look at bikeflights, they were $220-$230 each way.

I laughed and started looking at cases to bring on a flight. We tend to fly southwest since we get a lot of rewards points and the Thule I’m looking at would fly at no charge as a checked bag...

This would be for a trip to Colorado and we looking at going to California and Arizona within the next year. So it would more than pay for itself compared to bikeflights.

Found a smoking deal on the “old” version of the Thule RoundTrip Pro.

I would check out REI right now if you’re in the market.

Was even able to sneak a new Marmot sleeping bag into the purchase while staying under the wife’s radar!

I have two Cannondale bikes. The first one is my Road bike, the Synapse Carbon 5/105. Awesome bike!

The second one is the Cannondale Quick CX2 (Aluminum frame) that I use for trails with slightly rougher terrain that is not good for the road bike.

Both bikes, I had professionally fitted and it made all the difference in the world!

Bike all back together in the hotel room after the flight to Denver.

Took it on a nice ride through Denver and made my way to the Denver Zoo so that I could meet up with my wife and kids who cheated and took an Uber. The Zoo was awesome and they were nice enough to let me keep my bike in their security office since my bike was not allowed IN the zoo. For some reason in never crossed my mind that I would not be allowed to walk the bike along...

Dropped off the bike, grabbed a beer and went off to find my family!

After a few days in Denver we packed up the rental SUV and drove to the Vail area for the rest of the trip.

We stayed at a friends house that he owns in the "Cordillera" community. The house is on the summit and the views were stunning!

Took this on my phone the first morning:

    [img][/img]40448213284_a84f8e66b7_z.jpg

Halfway through the first day the Altitude started to kick my butt! Dizzy, light headed, tired all the time...

After a few days I felt good enough to tackle a ride and rode around the community and nearly died of exhaustion climbing back up the mountain...

On Friday I went down into the town and rode around and then took a bike/running trail that follows the Eagle river. It was a nice and relaxing ride!
