Recently bought the elephant ear ear washing system. AWESOME. Just use warm water. I can't believe the meteors this thing hosed out of my ears. You need to do it a couple of times, then the wax balls will start falling out. This is NO gimmick, this puppy works very well. I think it was $29 bucks, worth every penny. It has replaceable tips.

    I got some ear drops that turn your ears into a volcano when they are all waxed up. I would be very careful with that contraption, looks like it could blow out your O ring if you get trigger happy!

    It's awesome. I use 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 3 parts warm water.
    2 Channel: Atohm GT-1 speakers, Atoll IN400 integrated amp, PS Audio DirectStream DAC, PS Audio NuWave Phono Converter, Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit SB with Ortofon Bronze cartridge, SotM sMS-200 ultra streamer, SotM sPS-500 power supply, and homemade infinite baffle subwoofer with two Fi Audio IB318 drivers.

    I lay on my side and put a couple drips of hydrogen peroxide in my ear and then sit for a few and let it do its thing. Then I rotate so the ear drains and flush it out with warm water from a syringe.

    My ear wax doesn't discharge properly aND it becomes impacted. I go every two months to have my ears cleaned. This involves picking the impacted wax off the drum and vacuuming out the excess moisture. Sometimes it's worse than others and can be painful. I have, on occasion, used a peroxide and water rinse to help between visits. This usually ends up causing more problems than it cures. My doctors do not recommend rinsing as it can upset the delicate pH balance inside the canal, and, any residual moisture becomes a breeding ground for fungus. I know this first hand all too well.

    Looks cool, but, I wouldn't do it without consulting your dr first.

    In my 4.5 years here, I've never been offended, never been hurt, I've gotten irritated a couple times, but this is the first time I've been disgusted. This thread has completely grossed me out. You guys need to get together and start a colonoscopy thread sometime, or maybe a thread on infected sinuses. Maybe throw in a diarrhea thread while you're at it. Groddy!

    The GP I use to go to used a rinse when it got bad. The ENT dr's I now go to strongly advise against it for the reasons I mentioned.

    I would expect an ENT to recommend against solutions like this since it potentially takes you out of their office. I’m not saying their opinions isn’t valid, but is one that should be taken with some degree of skepticism.

    Most of the time it is ok, however, I have seen problems with this, including perforated tympanic membranes. Also, sometimes if the wax can get lodged against the drum which is a PITA to remedy.

    Also, some people experience a significant amount of vertigo with this.

    At my work, when I clean out ears via irrigation (which is my least favorite technique), I use a pigtailed catheter to allow for turbulence to occur within the ear canal. With a "BLIND" technique such as the above, there is not what I see to be a curled end which could mean a direct pressure against the TM.

    Most of the time you'll be OK. But when you do it wrong....

    You can kiss your speaker system journey goodbye.

    Tread softly.

    Yeah, but it's much easier to rhyme than cerumen. You need to clean the wax out to listen to your stacks of wax, FLACs, and CD tracks, but check with your doctor first. :p

    Try 1 drop of mineral oil and lay on your side for 20 minutes or even better, just before your nap if you are retired. Longer process but it has worked for me. Advice from Dr. Oz.

    I've done the thick-liquid murine peroxide drops, et, etc...it's a lengthy process. This works very efficiently, but COMMON SENSE applies. Start off slowly, and make sure the water is very warm. Squeeze the trigger at a moderate rate.

    This is more intended for maintenance, not clearing impacted wax. Again, common sense is your friend.

    These are used by a number of ear doctors, BTW.

    Everything the ENT told me has been proven correct. I'm 52 and have been getting my ears cared for for this same thing for well over 30 years.
