Well finished for now my retro rig consists of a bunch of laptops and a couple of PC's Full of tunes, backed up with a Toshiba hard drive just in case. Adcom 545 II, with a GTP 400 Pre Amp, running my CRS+s with OEM stands and a Musical Fidelity M1 DAC.

I'm using all Wireworld cables Solstice 7 Speaker Cables, Solstice 7 IC'S, a Starlight 7 USB Cable, I have some Sorbathane stuff underneath the DAC to isolate it. Thank God the wife don't care what I do in the man cave. It's simple Retro design and sounding fantastic. The only thing I need to do is wrap the A1 with aluminum foil which I'm fixing to go to the store to get so I can do the baked potatoe mod, here are a few pictures. B)

Retro is cool! I’ll join in with some 42 year old vintage sweet sounding Japanese gear. The Kef bookshelves play very nicely. Excuse the mess..

Nice but -- I have to say -- to my mind, "retro" and "digital displays" are pretty much mutually exclusive ;)

(now -- maybe -- some Nixie tubes or Numitrons would be OK... maybe)

My high school German teacher, Frau Hooper, had that same Schnitzelbank poster in her classroom! :)

We used to sing it now & again. She'd point to one of us and intone
Ist das nicht ein Haufen Mist?

And we'd gleefully and lustily respond:
Ja, das ist ein Haufen Mist!!!

    :)

(to say nothing of the dicke Frau, of course)

If I was more mobile, I have some pretty severe problems just standing still for long at this point, I would take an old junk amp or receiver case that wasn't worth saving and make it into a PC case. The one I was thinking about using was a friend's blown up Technics SA-700 that was smoked by a lightning surge. The output power LEDs still worked when I tested them, but all the PC boards were trashed. I was going to stick a little amp inside it and use the volume and tone controls on the front panel. It wouldn't be hard to make umbilicals up to do it. I have it sitting in the other room, in a box, gathering dust. I can't bring myself to sell it, maybe some day I'll get better..
