AVR setting for Sports

Options
I was watching the playoffs last weekend and realized the majority of the sound was coming from my center channel. The AVR was defaulting to Dolby D. I cycled through the sound options but nothing really appealed to me. Is there a way to bring more of the stadium sound to my other speakers while keeping the announcers in my center channel? All channel stereo brought the stadium sound to all the speakers but it also brought the announcers to all the speakers. I’m thinking I’ll try lowering the center channel in the setup. And then increasing the main volume. Anybody have a better idea?

Maybe a calibration issue? Sports sound just fine in Dolby 5.1 through both my HT rigs. Announcers up front, crowd noise at the right moments. It's funny when you can hear that one person getting crazy through just one particular surround channel.

I agree with mdaudio on maybe a calibration, level or placement issue. Sports sound fantastic like your at the game.

What echoooo? I've watched college football, NFL, college basketball, hockey, boxing and racing without an echoooo. That would annoy the hell out of me. That sounds more like a system, setting or placement problem.

Well give it a try. Not all DSP's are the same across the manufacturers.

On my Marantz, I set it to auto. For sports, it sets itself to Dolby D+DS and it sounds great to me. The commentator voices are definitely front and center as they should be but the ambient noise is placed well throughout the room.

I would definitely concur with a calibration issue.

I recalibrated and it still sounds the same. It’s not an issue for movies, but for football I would like to feel more like I’m in the stadium.

    Integra DTR 30.3

I think it’s just the way they broadcast. I’m looking for more stadium sound. I increased the surround speakers and it sound better.

It definitely sounds stadium-like here with my Marantz...

Even my old old Sony HTiB systems I had years ago always sounded very stadium-like...

I've never bothered with that, even though my AVRs have it. Are the announcers only in the front L&R?
