Hi I am wondering if someone can give an idea of how the 705s compare to other good speakers out there. Points of reference for me would be Vandersteen 2CE sig, Theil 2.3, Snell C/V Energy 1.8, PSB Gold i , Mirage OM 5. I would point out the Mirage seems to be in a different league then the others here as the band seems to be right in the room. Just wondering Thanks

To me, the 705's were all around better than the PSB Golds. The 705's have a super sweet midrange, pretty airy around the vocals, solid bass punch. I always expected the PSB Golds to put out more bass than they did.

I don't remember every specific detail, but the midrange and the air were the main traits I preferred on the 705's.

The PSB golds were not a bad speaker at all. The 705's were just better.

@hochpt21 what comparing the 705s to the Triton 2s you show in your sig? I would be very interested in that comparison and the improvement the Triton Two+ represents over both. If I may be so bold to as to add another ‘versus’.

I would say the Triton 2's have even more air up top. The midrange is wonderful and probably comparable to the 705's. I used the two speakers in different configurations in my room, so it would be hard to compare soundstage etc.

Both very musically involving. The Triton's probably a better sense of realism. Slightly better separation of instruments.

The 705's a bit smoother, not quite as up front at the Tritons, but I wouldn't say laid back either.

The one thing that really sets the Tritons apart is a powered, adjustable sub which is really outstanding. I adjust it based on the recording I'm listening to, or the mood I'm in. Even in my large room it puts out easily more bass than any other speaker I've had.

Depending on the size of your room, you might want to look at the Triton 1's over the 2+.

I have had both the 705 and vandies but in different rooms and different rigs. While i loved the vandies, the 705 i feel edges them out in the mid and top end.
