POLK RTIA9 receiver??

So I have just got my pair of POLK RTIA9 for new year from Bestbuy, but I never had a receiver before. I was just looking it up online and I cant decide which one is better for my usage.

So I bought a new 4k TV as well, so I'm looking for receiver that can do the 4k passthrough and wireless connection. What kind of price range am I looking at?

I saw so many cheap receiver on craglist such as the VSX-830-K, Pioneer Receiver VSX-830-K, ONKYO TX-NR616 7.2 Receiver etc, but I don't know which one works and which one doesn't, please help :'(

An AVR cannot power those speakers properly, they require a power amplifier, so look for an AVR that has pre outs.

To properly drive that pair of speakers, yes. If you got the 7's the AVR alone would be sufficient.

No you cannot buy any of those receivers and have them properly power your 9's. Neither of them have preouts to add a separate amp. You are really going to have to up your budget, or thing about getting used gear.

It still won't be cheap, but better gear = having your speakers operate to their full potential, which will make you happy in the long run.

If music is the primary purpose, you could start off with just this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-RX-V2500-Hi-End-Model-FM-AM-AV-Receiver-Amplifier-Great-Condition/152842835600?epid=50634581&hash=item2396249690:g:4ncAAOSw8apZgBKD

It is a pretty stout receiver, tested well at audioholics and other places, and is neutral to slightly warm, which is good for your speakers. Plus it has preouts so you can add a beefy amp when funds permit. And that is a very good price. Any universal remote will run it.

If you want HDMI, look for a 2600 or higher.

Even better, has HDMI 1.3 and a remote:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-RX-V1800-7-1-Channel-130-Watt-Receiver/352216964712?epid=62078291&hash=item5201c45e68:g:CDQAAOSwxzdZ6lkg

Not quite as powerful, but you still can use it for a while and then add an amp down the road. The 2500 might give you a little more cajones in the bass and slightly better dynamics, but not by much. I personally would go with the newer model...which is the 1800...

  • Ty for helping, I'm mainly looking at used gears now since I've just bursted 2.5k on the speakers and TV alone :/ there r sooooooo many to choose from but I've no idea how they work. Here is the list of AVR I'm looking on craglist
    Pioneer VSX-1131-K
    Pioneer Receiver VSX-830-K
    Denon AVR 889 7.1
    ONKYO TX-NR616 7.2 Receiver

So none of the them works

The pioneer will work, but I owned a similar one and the non-elite pioneers just sound wimpy and sterile compared to comparable denon, marantz, and yamahas.

You need one that had at least six rca (red and white) outputs labeled either 5.1 or 7.1 preouts. This will allow you to add an amp down the road.

If the TV is 4K with ARC and you want to use the built in apps to view 4K content but also want to best sound then you are in a different league and it is going to cost you to get both a solid amp with preouts and ARC. But if the TV also has a digital optical output, then you could use that to get sound from an older receiver.

Get your read on, figure out what you need (or help us help you) and tell us your budget and we will spend it x2 lol...

Nope, none of them works on their own. The A9's are power hungry speakers, and most receivers simply don't have the power they need. That's why you need a receiver with pre outs, that enables you to add a power amplifier.

You can hook them up to any of those, and music will play, but turn up the volume and your putting in jeopardy burning up the speakers, or receiver, or both.

My Pioneer SC-63 would be about as good as you could hope for in powering those a9 off a receiver. It might still be higher than your desired budget though at $350 plus shipping.

It also has preouts so you can add a dedicated amp later.

I can't tell really find any used Pioneer SC-63 at my area :/ I'm in vancouver if it helps. I mean if it's very good, I don't mind paying $400 tbh.
Is it going to be a waste if my receiver doesn't have 4K pass through and I have a 4K TV or if there's other alternatives:"( I'm pretty stressed about it now

There is no new receiver in the 400 buck range that can adequately drive the A9's. Plus your looking at another roughly 400 for a used amp. Your best option , cost wise, is to look for a used Pioneer SC receiver. That will get you by until you save the coin for an amp as long as you don't go nuts with the volume dial.

    Agreed.
This is a good option for your 9’s. The last thing you want to do is clip the speakers and have repairs.
The volume dial will need to watched for sure.

Those are suggestions, shipping won't cost that much. You can look in your own area too. Your local craigslist, US AUDIOMART, HIFI Shark, just some places to start.

Basically you have too much speaker for the electronics you can afford. Might be better to return the 9's for the 7's. Which then you can use just about any of those other receivers.

Yes, those are excellent receivers. I would get the newer refurb version due to video specs. That’s seems like a high price to me, but stuff seems to be more expensive up there!

If you can get it shipped to you, this is very similar to the marantz (denon and marantz are owned by the same company, though they are developed in different departments by different people):

Return the RTi A9's and get the RTi A7's and use the savings towards a good AVR. Like @F1nut said, you can get by with just the AVR that way.
