I don't know how to tell if it's good or not, but it's empty now! :p
PS - $10 to $15/bottle seems to work for me, as long as the ABV is at least 13%.

Nice tastes Joey, excellent wine. The Plumpjack is no slouch either. Great wines, on the expensive side for most though. Personally I wouldn't have a problem shelling out for either if it was a special occasion, but these won't fly for everyday drinkers.

Pio Cesare Borolo late 90's to early 2000's are monsters. Especially the 98.

Pick up a Flowers Pinot Noir, about 45 bucks a bottle...you might get spoiled on that one though. Caldera isn't bad either at 24 bucks. Another is named "Wright", also around 25 bucks.

    Ain't that the truth

There are exceptions. I live in New Hampshire — lots of snow, wind, and cold — I moved back east from Palo Alto, CA because I missed having four seasons, including winter with all its niceties. Florida is not my cup of tea, even in the midst of a winter blizzard in New England.

Thanks for the tips. I can go through a bottle every 2 days though, sometimes faster and that's on top of $8.99-10.99 worth of beer a day. I tend to go for the $6-$9 per bottle swill. But actually around here there are a million different choices.

That price point won't get ya much in the way of quality. Spanish wines or those from south America can hit some good price to tastes ratios though for around the 15 buck mark. I do a lot of wine tastings.....dang dagos. :)

Again, the problem with the premier crus is: if you can afford a given vintage, it's not very good. I say this as a guy with a single bottle of 1976 Chateau Margaux in the basement. I believe the French would say 1976 was OK to make salad dressing, or windshield washer fluid.

So, yeah, if it's a good one -- we're talking serious Gelt.

You didn't say what I buy, just my favorite! LOL once in a blue moon I will splurge! Baron philippe Rothschild makes a good mouton cadate (french, forgive spelling) and a Pinot Noir that is very good in the 15/25.00 range for a good "table wine". As you can surmise I am a Bordeaux man never had a wine too dry for my palate. If splurging and the LaTour is out of the budget is Chateau lafite-rothschild is also a great choice only about 200 a bottle or so.

Love Bordeaux's too, only the real good ones are real expensive. Haven't found a sub 50 buck one worth a repeat visit yet but to be honest haven't looked to hard lately either. Point me to a decent one sub 50, if one exists.

I know the French love their red blends too, some which can be fairly tasty.

The fine Bordeaux are blends (cuvees) of, mostly, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The French know that there's value added in blending :)

Sub 50 can buy "Baron phillipe Rothschild" grandson of the ROTHCHILD fame. As mentioned above. A very decent line of bordeaux's that maintain the Rothschilds famous consistencies and not break the bank

The second crus (whatever they're called) generally, dollar for dollar, deliver better wines (IMO, IME, YMMV, yadda^3).
