RTA-11T How much is too much power?

Options
I have a pair of RTA-11T’s that I used to power with a Yamaha M-65. The Yamaha kicked the bucket, or close to it. I have since been using my Marantz SR7005 integrated to power them which isn’t too bad at all. The Marantz is rated for 125 watts into 8 ohms.

I am about to purchase a PS Audio 200c locally. This amp is rated for 200 watts at 8 ohms, but no specifications are available from the manufacturer. My polks are 6 ohm and rated up to 250 watts. Would this be pushing it?

I’m buying the amp either way, just trying to figure if I need to get a new pair of mains.

I don’t want to trash the time, money, efforts I have into my RTA-11T’s. Point in case: crossovers, dynamat, Larry’s rings.

Thanks,
Ian

I did all of the same upgrades to my 11T, plus veneered in oak...
They have been powered by numerous 200+ W amplifiers, and they were never happier. They love power.

"With great power comes great responsibility. With little power comes greater responsibility."

This is the motto of amps and speakers combos.

In most cases the less an amp has to work to drive speakers the happier it is and the better the sound.

Eh, yes and no. Actually an amp needs to see a load to show it's potential. Too big of an amp, power wise, on too easy to drive speakers and the amp will be taking a nap.

I have a pair of RTA-11TL and, while they are easily driven by a Denon DRA-835R, rated 100W / ch, I have also used them with a high current Parasound HCA-1000A and a Pioneer M-91 rated 300W / ch into 8 ohm, 550W into 4 ohm. Don't be afraid of power. Too little power at high volume is far more dangerous.
