Check your state’s Unclaimed Property websites...

Nooshin and I just claimed more than $2000.00 in cash owed to us from our time in Indiana. Nothing says happy holidays like getting money back from places that were forgotten about.

Check your name with your State and see if they owe you.

Could be a paycheck from an old employer, or money from a home loan paid off. If you are a beneficiary on an estate, money could be there as well, so check relatives too.

I don't have any in Florida but there is one in Vermont. It is somewhere between $10 and $200. I have to fill-out a claim form to get it. :p

Just do a Google search for the name of any state in which you have lived and "unclaimed property". Most, if not all, states' websites have a page for their treasury.

  • Well, it appears that I am due something, just not sure what it is. The great state of Michigan makes you fill out a form and it may take 120 days to complete the request to see what I am due. Wish it would at least tell you the dollar figure.

Four accounts for me in Virginia. Three are under $50, probably more like $5, from real estate or insurance transactions I probably did not bother to cash a refund check on. The fourth is an old checking account that probably had $30 in it when I forgot about it 20 years ago.

Amazing the State know about this stuff.

Just wanted to say "thanks" for this thread. When I read this back in December, I figured I would see if I had any unclaimed property - not thinking I would ever have anything in this regard. I lived in Michigan before moving out to Nevada, so I did a check online though the State of Michigan site. I found two unclaimed items, but they don't tell you for how much. I had fill out some forms, have them notarized and send information in via the USPS. I did this back in December and totally forgot about it. My wife called yesterday and said, "we got a check from the State of Michigan for $188!". I would have never known to do this if it wasn't for this thread. Thanks! Every little bit helps.

My grandfather (who is no longer with us) was listed as well on the site, so I told my dad to go and see if there was anything. Haven't heard anything yet, but if there is anything I'll post that as well.

We did this in PA several years ago. Found 2 listings from my grandmother, I filled out the paperwork needed and my Dad signed it...a few weeks later he had over $800. Being the kind of father he was he split it between my sis and me.
Yep, my name really is Bob.

I found a big fat zero. Just like the new tax cuts, nothing.
2 channel: Anthem 225 Integrated amp; Parasound Ztuner; TechnicsTT SL1350; Vincent PHO-8 phono pre; Marantz CD6005 spinner; Polk SDA2BTL's; LAT International speaker cables, ZU Mission IC's and power cables all into a PS Audio Dectet Power center.

Other; M10 series II, M7C's, Hafler XL600 amp, RB-980BX, Parasound HCA-1500 amp , P5 preamp, all in storage. All vintage Polk have had crossover rebuilds and tweeter upgrades.

I actually just heard back last week from a few of the claims I put in back in December. It wasn't me. I got nothing.

At least you didn't get stuck with Lightman. Several states have been trying to give him away for years.

Actually he floats state to state because I hired a Fireball rep to chase him around. He can't stay stagnant for too long...
