Fitness Climbers Anyone?

Fitness Climbers, or climbing machines - what a great piece of workout equipment. I never really understood why they weren't more popular or more widely available. I used one briefly years ago in an annex military gym, and really liked it, but then didn't see one in a gym ever again.

I just briefly caught a commercial yesterday for one of these things, and hopped on to do some searching. There are a lot of different options out there, now in the "affordable" home gym equipment range. I've tried one or two really basic models over the years, but they seemed flexy or unstable. The real deal ones cost $2k - $3k+

Any of you guys have a climber?

Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

    Yeah, they're great, right?!?
Do you know which brand/model it is? Just curious.

I've seen some that seem to lean more forward/flat and you can control the incline.

Brutal is the word that comes to mind - Versaclimber is the big name I think, but wow, I'm exhausted after five minutes on one LOL!

Yeah, I remember seeing a bit on them making a comeback in gyms a few years ago and everyone interviewed was saying the same. The intervals seem shorter than a bike or stairclimber.

"We are" indeed. Should be a fun year. Ohio State figures prominently in the national championship race this year. With Suriano at 125 transferring to Rutgers and a few other defections, it should prove interesting.

OK, on topic. that Jacobs Ladder, although a different animal is a freakin' grinder.
My gym has one and if you climb "Mt Everest" you earn a t-shirt.

At my advanced age I like the more upright posture of the Versa and the minimal impact on your joints. Plus it really works the stabilizers (torso). I've had mine since the 90's.

That looks like Giant Mountain from the West. I used to live part way up Snake Mountain in Addison, Vermont, which I climbed several times. It gave a great view of Lake Champlain and The Adirondacks from the East. :)

    It is Giant!

My buddies and I like to take the drive North and hike up Roaring Brook Trail, set up camp and explore. Bourbon has NEVER tasted so good after a good day of hiking and warming up in front of a fire.
