I wash new vinyl. For one they stick it in a paper sleeve that sheds. Clean the record and insert it into a Mobile Fidelity inner sleeve. Keep your pinkys off the record and no cheetos or pizza rolls allowed while handling records.

Agreed. The release agent used on the records to free them from the molds will also grab dust and trap it inside those nasty paper sleeves. I have had some of the dirtiest styli after just one play of a new record.

I clean them, put them into a new inner sleeve, then add an outter sleeve just to be fancy.

I usually toss the original sleeve unless it has artwork, etc on them.

Thanks guys. I kindda knew the answer, that's why I waited to play this 11 buck set. I should have bought more of them at the price. I didn't know I was in the hole then. These sets would have made great (cheap) gifts. So I will break out the mud maker and magic fluid. I am so sick that I want to buy more vinyl to justify the effort lol.

Tom, how often do you wash them between plays?

As soon as I hear unwanted artifacts. In general, I'll clean every album side before I play it. New or not. I'm a big fan of vinyl but do not like the "nostalgia" of the clicks and pops. Cleaning with the RCM in conjunction with steam cleaning prior to each play reduces these artifacts by up to 95% IME. That's just me though, this would be overkill for most folks.

@treitz3 I am no purist, I got a TT because I had a somewhat small collection of LP's fossilizing it was a shame not to be able to play them. I hopefully never go that far into this "rabbit hole" unless I have the funds but if you love it, that is all that matters. GO FOR IT! I am a digital man because I am lazy lol.

Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant
