I am getting reports from Jerry12 and Niki that Atlanta is getting hit hard. They already lost at least 3 trees, one of them was huge. They are telling me that they have two more cells and after about 5:00 today, the coast should be clear.

Inlaws in Cape Coral had no damage other than some landscaping. So nice to see this thing weakened to a two at landfall.

    Glad everyone is here alright.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant
  • The only thing scarier than crap weather is crap weather in the dark you can't see coming. Here we just have to worry about really are tornadoes. Usually just before sunset so you can still see them. When it's ten o'clock and the sirens go off it's horrible cuz you can't see anything. I can't imagine the horror it must be there. I'd probably just have another heart attack and get it over with. You guys that rode it out have wrecking ball size testies!

Feeling pretty lucky here in West Cobb Georgia. Haven't seen anything major all day. Mostly steady rain and light winds. I'm in a valley and I guess winds are diminished down here. Have had power all day and things seem to be calming down all around us now. I have many friends around Metro Atlanta are without power. I find it amazing that something like six million people in Florida are without power.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Locally, today was a beautiful day. Sun was shining, 88 degrees. Piled up yard debris and my screen cage at the street. Power is still out, but has only been a little over 24 hours. Man do I miss the AC!

Not a lot of damage around here. Telephone tower crumbled. I saw only two roofs that were destroyed. Mostly tree limbs and palm fronds littering the yards and streets. Many trees are down. For taking a Cat 3 right on the chin, Marco Island fared very well.

Storm continues to wreak havoc. I do pray everyone remains safe.

Glad you guys are safe and in clean up mode.

Really glad the storm lost steam before impact.

No electricity does suck, but I feel just as bad when our northern brethren's go without power in the winter northern's

Let's hope she doesn't continue bringing devastation, been a hella' couple weeks and pray for a calm fall/winter as we approach tornado season and the northern blues.

Thanks for chiming in guys and hope for quick recovery to your communities

  • Another reason for this date to go down in history.
  • Screen porch shredded, debris all over, a few trees down, no flooding, all considered we were very lucky and blessed. And ya cat 2 in the dark is just plain frightening. God help those less fortunate than us! THE POWER literally just came back on as I typed this.

We even lost a large tree in upstate South Carolina near Charlotte. I am not a big fan of Irma. Of all the trees in the yard, she picked the one damned tree that provides shade in the afternoon to my front porch. Grrr.

Last I talked to Niki, she had already lost 3 trees, one on them was gargantuan.

Power's been down since 16:30 yesterday and is not expected to be back up anytime today. I've heard reports that around 80% of my county is without power. I live 60 miles north of Atlanta. Coming into work this morning, trees were down everywhere. Makes the daily commute to Atlanta that much more interesting! Lol!

Really can't complain though, so many others have suffered immeasurable grief from Irma and Harvey. My thoughts and prayers go out to them!

I gave to a national charity, and JJ Watt for Harvey. Is their any local FL/GA charities for Irma storm relief that look legit being promoted on your local news channels out east???

  • Thought of @lightman1 and all his hard working contemporaries today as I drove by Roberts Arena here in Sarasota. Could just grab two, one-handed phone shots of FPL's (Florida Power and Light) staging area. There are, literally, hundreds of bucket and tree limb shredder trucks being dispatched throughout the area. For perspective, the gable roof shown in one shot is about 150 yards from the street I was on. Solid trucks from there to the road.

I kinda feel guilty too. I now have power and internet and directv. Getting caught up. It's funny watching the local news here. I usually don't watch local news much but 1 channel was looking for people to blame while another was showing the positive aspects of neighbors helping neighbors, churches making meals.there are areas that are just devastated and still have high water. Those areas seem to be more inland in Lee Cty. and affected older construction and mobile homes. Newer construction and elevation are so key here in SWFL.
