  • Nice price point, obviously designed to match the signature series. Terrible name though. Home Theater Series pfff. Does that mean it's not good for music? I thought the SS were more focused on music than HT. Should have been Signature Subwoofer or SSW at least to not limit its application.

Agree on the naming thing. In fact, if the specs are any indication of actual performance, they don't dig deep enough to be a serious contender for Home Theater use. They look nice though & probably perform well on music. The smaller SVS subs will crush the HTS for not much more money.

Check out the new Marantz receiver that is debuting at Cedia.

You can register at Cedia as an attendee but you may have to be a customer installer, I'm not sure of the rules to get in or how much.

@nguyendot, yes Polk subwoofers do use some form of a power port. However the HTS subwoofer have been redesigned to reduce even more chuffing.

Just because it is named the HTS doesn't mean the subwofoer is strictly for home theater. I use mine in a 2 channel setup with a pair of Signature S15s.

Yea I don't really know what the point of making subs like this is anymore. Decent looking, reasonably compact subs that hit into the upper 20s for just under 5 bills? Those are a dime a dozen. Polk's own PSW505 can easily be purchased new for under $200, and there are lots of other examples.

We all know that the MSRP is not what the subs will really sell for. So why not jack up the price a couple hundred and MAKE A REAL SUB. Or better idea, price it at what you are actually going to sell it for. Then you could compete with HSU and SVS's entry lines.

Serious question @meganpolkaudio: does Polk sell very many subs? I just can't imagine that you do...

  • Bet they do. I doubt they made this sub just to be completest.
This sub fits the line. Lets hope it is a solid sub that lasts.

What would be cool for me is if Polk made a R&D high end line
that was designed made in america but was within reach of the
common man. Kind of like what they are famous for.

I don't know the total Polk sales numbers nor do I want to. I also don't think Polk is trying to compete with HSU or SVS. I got my VTF3 to my door for $850 hard to make a sub like that for less. I think the 12" can give my STF 2 a run but I got that for sub $300.

What I think and just my two cents is. Polk made this sub to fit with the Signature line. Yes it should be named Signature SubWoofer or SSW. Soon we will see these packaged up in deals with Signatures going all the way to adding Denon and Marantz AVR's. Drop $2k and your entire matching system delivered to your door.

People buying a set of Signatures will see this sub and get it due to it matching the speaker. It will add to a ton of WAF. One big reason for the decline in HT is the partner doesn't like all the big square speakers.

My wife, mom and sister has even admitted to liking the look of the Signature not to say all have said they like the sound even more.

    Just my thought.

Based on previous subs it won't give ur HSU STF-2 any competition. The HSU is 10 inches and hits to 25hz. It's also tighter and cleaner than Polk subs in my experience. And it's 50% less $$$!!!

Yes I do realize the size factor. But for the retail cost they could do better.
