Audio Gremlins

I turned the amps on to get ready for tonight, and after a few minutes went to play some classical string quartets as background music. Silence. WTF? Turns out the pre is set to 'Input 5'. Okay. Switch to 1 via remote. No change. Switch via the input button on pre. No change. Now what is going on? Since the pre does not have a power switch, I pulled the power cord, waited, put it back. Now it works fine. What was that about? It was working fine when I went to bed this morning. Freaking gremlins. :)

Sometimes the circuitry within chips gets a pin hung in a high or low signal. When you do a hard reset, the chips all dissipate energy and the problem is gone. That's why a hard reset is recommended on so many electronic issues after all other updates or troubleshooting fails.

It may present itself again and then again, you may have that particular issue never rear it's ugly head again.

Probably was some type of power glitch. It rarely rains here in the summer, and yesterday it actually sprinkled. Naturally, after a few drops the power went off, then back on. After I returned from work I saw it had gone off/on at least one more time.

My NAD T-758 is that way. The sound will disappear so you plug in a headphone and then unplug it and the sounds is back, other times changing the source from 1 to 2 then back to 1 and the sound is back.

sometimes you just have to turn it off, then back on :(
