dayam. That is a good deal. Normally $500.

@nbrowser - you have one of these slim Marantz units, don't you?

Flakey Jimmy was mentioning last week that he liked these.
    Good heads up!

I owned an NR1403, yes it was great for the bedroom. But I definitely think the SR5007 I have now sounds better, but never compared them. Either way, this would be a great receiver to run a smaller setup with efficient speakers!

Good info on the 5007. A friend is looking for one of the slim units, though, and on a matching budget. I don't know of many others. Maybe should start a thread asking for recommendations. I guess now that I think about it, a bunch of manufacturers make them.

But, with the a4l model you get Bluetooth and a few other things that the 1504 doesn't have. For $50, I'd get the newer model even if it is a refurb.

I have a NR1403 and it outperforms my Denon AVR2113CI easily. The sound quality is better and it has preouts for the FL & FR + sub. So, you only need it to drive your center channel & your surrounds & it is easily capable of doing that. 50 wpc may not sound like much but this slimline receiver can deliver the goods. That's my $0.02 anyway.

    HT: Samsung QN90B * Marantz NR1510 * Panasonic DMP-BDT220 * Roku Ultra LT * APC H10

    Cool, good info guys.
FJ told me this morning he went for it.
You guys think this'll be a good entry piece for a guy getting started?

He won't get as serious as some of us here, but I kinda don't want to see him heading off into junk territory anymore. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be comfortable buying used, and seems picky about refurbs on some stuff. A4L seems to be hit or miss sometimes on the quality/exchange hassle factor? I've seen mixed reviews here.

I think ultimately he'll end up with some 703s or Signature series, and maybe an amp. If he decides to step up his main, seems like the slimline Marantz would make a great secondary 2ch in a smaller listening/reading space.

Re: Bluetooth, for someone like FJ, if he wants to add it, I'd recommend one of those IOGEAR Tunetaps. I picked up a couple in the early days for ease of use before I added extra streamers, and it works pretty well. Though it seems that these days, skipping Bluetooth and going straight for Chromecast Audio may be the better route? Can't get over all the apps available for it, and it's pretty much the same price as a Tunetap.
