I would definitely set all the speakers to small so that you can set each xover point and start by putting the center around 80hz. I would recommend something more capable than the Adcom 7500 at 150/channel. I am running Emotiva XPA3 3-channel (275/channel on my front A9s/CSI6 and running XPA3 4-channel (260watts/channel) on my sides and rears. The headroom and dynamics that i am getting is astonishing. Love the room!!!!

I have been thinking the same thing but Pioneers MCACC Pro is a little light in your control of settings.I have always bought Elite since 1992(13 receivers) but Marantz is looking like the way to go these days.
With the Pioneer SC87 you can only set the crossover for all speakers. If set to small for all I have to go 50HZ or 80 HZ for all speakers. Not ideal for the 9's at 80HZ and 50HZ would not be ideal for Center and in ceiling Atmos speakers. I am running the A6 and 70RT in ceilings at small and 80HZ. A9's large currently. Sounds awesome but I like the Idea of adjusting the lower levels more.

It makes me consider upgrading to a Marantz 7703 down the road. I put a Marantz 5010 with the Adcom 7500 in the master Bedroom with my LSI 7's/LsiC and I like that it will adjust any speaker and crossover point. Sound is amazing in that room. I am also running 2 DSW 440's for subs.

I decided to leave my XPA-5 on the 9's and center. Sounds good with 200 watts. Your XPA3 set up must be awesome.
I am also running a X500 for the 4 Atmos speakers with around 110 clean watts they are very clean and detailed too.

I do believe the Sub will be next. The 1200 is still great for a 14 year old sub but it can be improved for sure.

I have been thinking the same thing when it comes to the crossover settings. It makes sense to control the lower HZ output. Looks like the 1200 will be upgraded.

The problem I currently have is setting all my speakers to small causes some issues. Pioneers MCACC Pro does not allow you to set individual speaker crossover settings. If you set the 9's to small all speakers have to cross at 50HZ or 80HZ.
If I set it at 50HZ the center and 4 Atmos speakers won't be happy. If I set at 80HZ I feel the 9's will be to thin. I would like 60HZ for the 9's. What to do?

I have been thinking about getting a Marantz 7703 to get the control I want. I have a 5010 in the Master BR it gives you that control. it works great with the LSI7/LSiC setup I have.

I did decide to keep the Emotiva XPA-5 on my system. I agree with you guys on the power needs of these speakers. I also run a X500 to my Atmos in ceiling speakers. great detail for sure.

Your AVR doesn't allow setting LR different from Center from sides and/or surrounds? Different AVR or pre/pro then.

I saw an Outlaw 975 on eBay, under $300. Allows individual XO settings in 10hz steps from 40 to 150hz. Doesn't do Atmos, I'm sorry to say though a one of two new Outlaw processors will.

It really is strange that Pioneer has less control then others. I have been a fanboy of Pioneer forever(13 receivers)but I am ready to move on. Now that they have merged with Onkyo they will not be the same.

Marantz/Outlaw/Emotiva will get a look. My buddy just got a Marantz 7703 Pre/Pro. Amazing control.

    Upgrade Path going forward.
    1. New Salamander Stand -Get the center up off the floor.
    2. New sub
    3. New Pre/Pro
    4. 4k TV when the DLP dies
    5. Replace Oppo 103 with 203

Start with 1 upgrade and look what happens. Happily my friends and family always like to buy the old stuff.
    Overtime is my friend!

Get your CC tweeter on the same plane as your LR tweeters ASAP. Or rather as best you can. IME the A6 "aiming" feature is OK in a pinch. However you'll see or hear the diff when your CC tweet height is W/in a few inches or less than 20 degrees of your LR.

Mine is ~4" below my LR.

Crossover settings is weird in my HT. I had it all set to 80 and it sounded a little lacking. I went a did an Audyssey reset and played through an action movie. I found the best for me is to have my S60 set as large no crossover. everything else set to small and crossover set to 80. when I do the fronts to small and 80 I miss a lot of mid bass.

My bedroom HT is the opposite. everything is set small and CO @ 80 and it's perfect.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

Thats what I am finding too. The smaller space of the bedroom is probably why it works. I have 2 DSW440's in the master and it is awesome crossed at small/80HZ
I know the 1200 in the family room is not going to cut it with the settings I want. I guess after 14 years its Ok to upgrade. The wife even said she was surprised I hadn't.

That seems like it will be difficult, given the aesthetics of the current setup, but I agree with the concept. However, when the DLP dies, I'm thinking a wall-mounted panel situated slightly higher would help, with the center then able to be mounted higher. The A9s are tall, which makes lining up the tweeters somewhat impractical in a typical situation. Unfortunately, we don't have acoustically transparent TVs yet!

    2nd on A9's becoming magical after 200wpc.

I found A9's have useable output audibly and by meter as low as 30hz, so I set them to small with a crossover at 40hz, lowest the Marantz would allow. That's for movies...music is all in Pure Direct, so full range.

I need that control for my room. The pioneer is good but that Marantz gives a lot more freedom to control your issues.
A new sub will be a huge part of the solutions too.

I am very interested in you HSU's for comparing my options.

Polk specs the A7s to 35hz. I'll vouch they dig DEEP. I have dedicated 180 watts PER WOOFER* - each w/it's own set of binding posts. So full range the bass is authoritative to say the least. Further, I've the internal wire to the same* to 8 Ga to ensure minimal loss
Music is all in Pure Direct, so full range.
I've come to prefer music w/out a sub, too.

Without a sub depends on the music, that which was meant to have bass definitely gets the subs, other stuff, sometimes I turn down the subs so they're barely contributing, others off all the way. Orchestral doesn't matter unless there's a meaty organ bit. HSU's test cd for example has organ music down to solid 16hz, so yeah, subs.

Got a build thread or more info on your setup?

    To Insp24: I re-read your post.

I don't actually have a build thread per say. Just the links below w/pics. Mearly a 6-7 year process, reading a lot and posting some to threads, learning along the way.

    http://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/174880/tri-amped-rti-a7#latest

All that to get it to its present form. One more major speaker mod, new Prepro, and a worthy Sub. Follow those w/a few minor changes/upgrades. I'll cap it w/IC & speaker cable upgrades and call it "done."

    System Update..
Just ordered dual SVS PC-2000's to replace the PSW 1200. She is a good sub but not cutting it for what I'm after.

I am hopeful that the A9's and Subs will work well together.
Cylinder subs will be different but look to be the best fit for my space and WAF.

I spent over an hour on the phone with ED Mullen at SVS and he is very cool and a real audio guy for sure.
He also is a Polk guy . He has LSI's in his Master bedroom. Can't go wrong there.

I should get them just before the 4th. Fireworks or new Subs. Same thing right?

Just read this whole thread, and my gut reaction from the beginning was "the CC is mismatched to the rest, it's way too small".

I'll have to stand by that gut reaction... Personally and logistically, I'm of the "you can't have too big of a CC" camp. Seeing that nearly all of the dialogue and much of the SFX run through it, having a full range CC is almost a necessity. Also I don't see the subs LFE channel picking up the slack of the 80Hz XO on the CC.

Just my opinion, and please note that I'm very jelly of the new components, they look sweet.

CSIA6 can definitely keep up with the A9's as long as it's powered properly. I have even more power and more sub and it has no problem filling the centerstage. Just my subjective opinion. ;)

Of course if a larger matched center channel existed I would have it :D

^ exactly! One more reason as to why I'll wind up building a CC to complement the rest of the system instead of going with what's out there already. No one ever makes it properly large.

I agree. Your system is not lacking at all.

The A6 is a great center and more detailed then my Cs1000p. I do miss the some of the low end in the center but a properly set up system will compensate for what it's missing.
I also wish they had a 4 driver model still. It's the whole WAF and the sound bar trend that hold most manufacturers back from building one.

No problem at all either w/ the csia6 keeping up w/ my rtia9. Putting around 275/channel to each.

RTI/CSI like a lot of power.

When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

Just to revisit the shipping comparison discussion from the first page, I dug up some stats.

Yes UPS damages more packages, but it also ships a lot more packages than FedEx. Plus, its ground shipping operation is 5X larger than FedEx, which relies on overnight air for its core business.

Air packages are handled differently from ground packages, usually more carefully. So, it might be said that this explains the disparity in damaged packages. The rates of damage are 11%, 10%, and 7% for UPS, USPS, and Fedex, respectively.

All shippers are using the same good old fashioned conveyor belt and delivery truck method of moving packages. So, it only makes so much sense to perceive better service from one courier vs. another.
