plans for 2002....

I am now sure that my wife is a communist. She has been mapping out her (ergo, our) plans for the upcoming year. To loosely quote Fred Thompson in "The Hunt for Red October" "Son, the average Rusky doesn't take a dump without a plan." That may not be the exact quote but close enough....anyway, Wendi is the same way.

However, none of her plans include audio equipment (surprise, surprise) so I have been thinking on my own of what I should do. I am pretty convinced that I should start assembling a 2 ch he-man type stereo rig. Originally, I was just going to replace the front speakers in the HT rig but I have decided that I want to convert one of the spare bedrooms to an audio room.

Does anyone else have any plans for thier audio system for the upcoming year??

I also plan to assemble a new stereo system this year. However, before I can accomplish this a few small items must first come to pass. I need to procure a high paying job and place of residence with enough room to accommodate both home theater and stereo systems. Once these minor details are in order, look out! Who knows? By then there might even be an LSi dealer near by!

I'm working on mine slowly but surely....go for it, you need a man cave brotha. Brandy has budgeted a whopping 'ZERO $$' for audio upgrades this year....

Well, I guess we'll see what we'll see then.....

I think Brandy and Wendi went to the same accounting classes.

Wendi contends that the garage is the man cave, however, I contend until there is central heating and air, no dice. She already vetoed the disco ball and the pool table. It would interefere with her putting the car in the garage when it is cold. Yeah, what about the other 363 days of the year?

no worries! In my case, you could make a strong argument for that. However, in my case, I am way ahead of the game being married. I was single for quite a while and must say that definately, advantage: married guys.

BTW, Aaron, how many times have you passed on the opportunity to upgrade those Bose to something respectable at little cost to yourself???? What's up NOW, punk?

I will have to agree to this.
I too was single for quite a few years and have gained more being married than single. Being single has its rare perks, but a married man never has to wonder when his hand and that worn out porno will not be finishing off his night

Troy, let Wendi have 2002. But then you get all of 2003 to get whatever A/V gear you want. Sounds fair, doesn't it? And that my friend only gives you 358 more days to plan, dream, and audition. BTW, I think all wives get the same training in home financing, and they get it from their mothers.

    1. You do the bills and banking!!!
    2. NEVER tell them more than they need to know
    3. Sock away any bonus's or pay increases
    4. JUST DO IT, they will learn to live with it...Whats the worst that can happen, you take a little crap for a while big deal!

EX: this year I paid off my wife's student loan for her masters, she got her new kitchen table, and the ring she wanted.. she couldn't say **** when my monster hts5000's(2) Denon avr5800, Tons of mit term2 interconnects and speaker cables and new polk cs1000p landed at the door, hell I earned it!! And to shut her up I sold all of the old gear I was replacing, but she only knows half of what I sold it for..... ya know??? can you say DVD-A

Almost forgot, known each other 12 years, been married 6..... Ole' Brandy is hinting on the 'ring upgrade' now, since I am doing 'so much better'.

Thats ok, we talked subs tonight, she knows it will happen regardless, and she can either be pissy about it, or be a part of it.... Past few years, she had made the right choice...

In all my years of wedded bliss, I have been ever mindful of what a wise old friend told me years ago concerning the secret to a happy marriage. And that is,,,,"It is always easier to ask forgiveness, than to ask permission" So far, I have sneaked the new center speaker, and sub in without her snapping on it. She likes the 800's, so that was'nt a hard sell. The task now, is to find a way to replace my old surrounds with the 300I's I've been eyeing. And if all else fails,,,,I will resort to this. "Gee honey,,,,just think how good "Legends Of The Fall"(Gag!!! Puke!!!!)will sound on this now!! :D

I'm satisfied with my audio rig. I'm currently upgrading the center and subwoofer in my modest little HT rig.

My CS400i center has been replaced with a modified SDA CRS+. right channel speaker. It has the same tweeter and woofers as my fronts and surrounds (SDA 1C's). With the CRS+, I don't hear a timbre change when sounds move from the center to one of the fronts. The disjointed sound of the CS400i/SDA 1C's combination has been replaced with a solid well-integrated wall of sound in front of me. Contrary to what Polk says on the website, their current line of HT speakers does not mate well with SDA's, at least not with my SDA's. If I ever decide to go the 6.1 route, I'll modify the left CRS+ and use it as a rear center.

The only bad thing about doing the above was that now I have to put my RT55i's back in my home office system (until I find another pair of CRS+).:(

The Polk PSW 650 sub is being replaced with a passive SVS CS Ultra subwoofer powered by a bridged Adcom GFA 555mkII amp (bridged power of 600 watts into 8 ohms). I just got tired of the muddy sound of the PSW 650. I'm buying the SVS sound unheard, but they have a 45 day return policy (minus shipping-which is $20.16). If I don't like it, all I'm out is 20 bucks.

The SVS sub should be here next week. I let you know if it lives up to the hype.;)

raife1, all I got to say is WOW! Very, very cool! I would be very interested in your thoughts on the SVS.

Russ, oh man....that phrase is one that I have been ever mindful of. Ring upgrade gives me nightmares. However, in that department I got a couple things going for me. One is that Wendi is the consumate miser, and second, we agreed that we would adress that at our ten year anniversary. We just hit 6 so I got a few more to go.....

Nah, I don't believe in being sneaky because I would be pissed if she did something similar. I prefer to be upfront and go from there. So far, I have gotten what I want but it has been a bit of a struggle.

I've decided to keep the SVS CS Ultra. I've grown addicted to the clear, articulate bass rumbling through my video room. Plus, they are a perfect match for my SDA 1C fronts/rears and my SDA CRS+ center.

The CS Ultra is a 4 ohm load. The GFA-555MkII delivers 800 watts into 4 ohms in bridged mode. The CS Ultra loves every bit of that juice! Actually, the GFA-555MkII bipolar transistor design is a better amp for driving a subwoofer that Adcom's newer MOSFET designs. MOSFETs are more musical overall, but bipolars have more low frequency "slam" and control.
