I got a hankerin for some new speakers awhile ago so I ordered these puppies from Newegg last Sunday for a couple bills less than msrp (free shipping) and they were delivered today. Boxes took a beating but the speakers came out of it without a single nick. Boy do these sound great for the money. Damn nice speaker. Nice looker too.

What kind of speakers are those next to the TSI 500's and how do they sound?

Those are JBL L100t3, circa mid 1990's. I've owned them for around 3 years.

To tell you the truth I have'nt listened to them for quite awhile. A pair of Altec 848A Flamenco were residing in the room up untill I sold them last month. I just brought the JBL's out of storage, set them in the room, and have'nt hooked them back up to anything yet. They must sound half decent or I would'nt have had them here taking up space for so long.;)
IIRC the metal tweeters sound a tad hot to my ears. Good mids and bass although it would be nice if the bass went a little lower given the size of the box. In my experience, placement and room issues have a huge effect on how these speakers act. I also can tell you that they like to be fed gobs of power. One of my reasons for owning the McIntosh MC2300.

    Thanks guys.
The only other Polks I've ever owned was a pair of old Monitor 10b. I liked them a lot. Listening to these new TSi 500's simply reaffirms that Polk Audio is still in the business of producing a quality, kick-**** speaker for a very fair price. I think I'm in love.:)

LOL, run man while you still have the chance!! We are very good at spending other people's money. I'm sure those 500's could benefit from an external amp of some sort!! :D

    Leroy,

I am here to tell you that after months of them sitting idle, I finally plugged the JBLs into my vintage system this morning because a friend of mine had made me an offer to buy and I was getting the system up and running so he could audition the L100t3's. Well long story short, after warming up the big Mac and playing a couple of cd's through the JBL's I decided that they are'nt going anywhere. My daughter is going to end up with them after I'm six feet under.:)

These new TSi's sound great but they don't touch the full, powerful and crisp sound of my JBL's. That is in no way a slam to the Polks, I already stated before that I am quite happy with them.

To be fair, I'll admit that so far I've only ran the new Polks off a Denon AVR. I will hook up the TSi's to the Mac and give them a shot soon. The MC2300 puts out 50 wpc more than the Polks call for so I'll be gentle with them. I'll be sure not to have consumed too many frosty beverages before hand;)

Definitely hook them up to the Mac. That should make a huge difference over your AVR.

Also, you're more likely to damage a speaker by under powering them than over powering them. So, no need to be gentle really. Your ears will likely run out of breathing room before the speakers do.

Got those at Circuit City a little over four years ago. They're made by Z Line Design. I cobbled together the wheeled platforms under em.
