Actually, this morning my son and I did a little cement work this morning. Grabbed a 12" sonotube, dug down 2', did a little mixing, and voila ! Now we just have to wait a while, and the new front porch post gets put in.
I'll admit that we cheated and used a power auger. The 2nd greatest invention in man's history (the 1st being the powered snowblower).
While I was supervising my son mixing the sacks of cement mix in the wheelbarrow, I got my cellphone out and logged onto CP. I must have entered some sort of time warp or stargate or something, because a button came up for "previous posts", so I clicked "last" and .... :o
I have an Android phone, so I don't know if Apple has the same time-jump feature.
If not, that would be pretty crumby.

"Crumby" for Catcher in the Rye discussion, else "crummy."

Still remember reading that (in 1984) and marveling at the odd spelling.

I don't recall the "Catcher in the Rye" spelling, but my personal opinion is that "crumby" is an adjective with the literal meaning "covered in crumbs," while "crummy" is a noun that is a slang term for a caboose on a train or for a vehicle in which loggers travel to get to their workplaces.

Of course, "crumby" has also taken on the figurative meaning "low quality" or "dilapidated."

I would posit that people uniformed about the proper definition of "crummy" noted above have just confused the spellings of the two words, and thus over time these spellings have become interchangeable in common parlance when the meaning to be conveyed is that of the word "crumby."

However, no self respecting son of a railroad man would ever refer to a caboose as a "crumby." [Please note that I have no credentials speak for self-respecting sons of loggers.]

At this point in this discussion of this extraordinarily important controversy I feel compelled to abandon my false tone of humility with a confession: As a former Assistant to the Editors of "Modern Philology," who spent a couple of years proofreading arcane scholarly articles in many languages prior to their publication in said scholarly journal, I consider my pronouncements on this question definitive, dispositive, and conclusive.

Therefore, I respectfully ask the Moderators to declare that the question put -- note the use of the word "put," rather than the frequently used and, nevertheless, improperly used word "posed" -- by the Original Poster in this thread has been ANSWERED!

I confess that I do love the study of language(s) -- albeit now as a rank amateur, rather than a professional -- and that does, I guess, make me a "philologist."
