Internal padding or foam rot

Recently, I noticed black sticky filings around the feet of my RT 12 speakers.

Upon inspection and after inserting my fingers into the 'Power" ports, I could feel huge chunks of the padding or foam that have dropped down to the ports.

Could someone enlighten me on this and how to remedy the situation.

Appreciate your prompt reply.

Thanks and regards.

Problem is, those speaks never had foam surrounds, which sounds like what is going down here.

  • Hi,

Any answers to this question? My RT's have the same issue now (15 years later!), and I notice some distortion. Is there a downward firing passive radiator with foam surrounds, or is this just internal baffle material?

    Hmmm ...

It is internal baffle material. My son had some RT12's gave to him and we found it inside when we rotated the woofer to combat a rattle also well known problem. Might try eggcrate foam material or rolled dacron. Not the loose dacron.
  • Cool - thx!
