Toshiba Zoom & Aspect Ratios

Watched the new LOTR--FOTR (4 disc) dvd on a Toshiba SD-K710 (my dad bought the player at Costco for $139). It was great. Very good PQ and sound (6.1 DTS through my Sony DA5ES), etc. I do not have a HDTV yet, so I used the interlace mode.

I really enjoyed the zoom mode on the Toshiba. I zoomed out (not in) to go from a 4:3 mode to what I believe are 1.85:1 and 2.35:1 aspect ratios. It was PHENOMENAL to be able to watch the movie like you were in the theater. Granted the letter box black areas took up more screen space, but on a 32" screen it really did not matter. :D

Then I watched LOTR again on a Panasonic with 4:3 letterbox/pan and scan aspect ratio, and realized just how limited this display is and how much I was missing the Toshiba's wide screen display options. :(

I am now strongly considering purchasing the Toshiba 3800 or 4800, but am curious to know if there are any other brands out there that allow similar aspect ratios, especially for interlace mode.
