RT600i's as surrounds for RT800i fronts?
Options
Thanks everyone for helping me determine how to set up my new HT gig. As a relative rookie, you all have helped a bunch.
Now I have another question- what are the advantages/disadvantages to buying a pair of RT600i's to act as rear speakers for my RT800i fronts? Should I expect a difference if I instead went with the fx500i or fx300i? Thinking down the road to a 7.1 setup, would these be a good side speaker (or whatever the nomenclature is)?
Rest of system- VSX-D811s, PSW-150 sub, CS350LS center.
thanks
Chris

I'd look into some bookshelfs. The 55i's are some of the best bookshelf speakers made (the 35i's are no slouch either) and this will allow for better sound for SACD/DVD-A if you choose to make that leap. If you can get a deal on the 600i's and don't mind the floorspace, this would be an optimal choice IMHO.
The fx series will give a fuller rear sound, especially for VHS (DPL), but my opinion stands.Make it Funky! -
I think you would be better off getting a bookshelf speaker, something you could mount on the wall overhead.
The surrounds should do just that,
surround your rear stage.

Depends on your setup and so forth. I don't see a downside to using the 600's. The fx series will give a more diffused sound. It's just a matter of preference though.

I have the SRS 3.1TL's for the fronts and the RT800i's for the rears. I traded in a set of FX500i's for the RT800i's (at circuit city).
It was an excellent move.
I didn't care at all for the sound from the FX500i.
Diffuse or not, its still a little bookshelf speaker.
Buy the bigger surrounds. That way, you don't need a stand. -
I have a pair of rt1000i's as my rears. I love them. They have the built in subs, and for sacd, they are great. I did look at the rt55i's and in my opinion, the rt55i's sounded better and more spacious, but I got a hell of a floor model deal on these rt1000i's. They sound great themselves anyways. The rt55i's just didn't have the bass or depth, but did have the spacious sound to them.Home Theater
