Can ya run 2 sets of speaks off a single receiver? (speaker question too) :-)

I'm pullin a double posting on your a$$es.......I'm not sure of where it's better served.........so here ya go........ :D

********************

This is actually a receiver question, but ya gotta wade through the speaker part of this one.............

OK......I'm all for overkill, and I'm debating adding a few things to what I've got. In addition to what I have, I am interested in the Lsi9's, and the LsiC. Is there a way to hook all of the speakers up to the same amp and just switch between the two sets based on the type of listening that I wanna do?

The reason I ask is cuz I love my RT16's for music(hard house, techno, trance, etc), but I don't think that the Lsi's could give me what I want out of a speaker for that music. I want the Lsi's for the benefit of very crisp and sharp sounds in movies etc. I'm not complaining really about my RT's, but I'm curious if I could be running them both off the same amp somehow (NOT at the same time.....just switching whenever needed)

Granted, I know the type of amp would be an issue, but tentatively, I'm thinkin the Denon 5803.

I guess this post could go in the speaker set too, but to blend the two together.....also, I'm curious if it would be workable to use the f/x1000's along with the Lsi's up front. With the majority of sound being just sound effects out of the surrounds, I wouldn't think that a sound effect would be that much different between the two. I could see volume levels needing to be adjusted if the fx1000's are gonna be used with the Lsi's, but that's workable.........

Help?

This suggestion will drive the interconnect group crazy but why not splice a toggle switch in line with your speaker wire. Use an RCA Y and parallel the 2 speakers with the installed togel and at the very worse a short duration 4 Ohm load will be across the amp at low volumes.

I'm pretty sure (but not positive) that the 5803 has a speaker A/B. LSi to A and RT to B. No problem. If not, I'd qo with a quaility switch box. Don't skimp or get something for 6 sets of spkrs @20w/ch.

I think the f/x would be lovely with the LSi line for movies. DVDA & SACD might be a different story, but still good none the less.

I would be disappointed if the LSi's couldn't do house, techno, etc. I have yet to demo them, but I found them and will do a demo soon.

The switchbox thing is a good idea. I would look into good quality switchboxes because the cheap ones would probably degrade the signal. OK, here's another suggestion. Why not try "bi-wiring 2 sets of speakers". Make sure you use banannas and unhook the pair you don't want to listen to. This could be done with the center speakers as well. Just make sure the unplugged bannanas don't touch eachother while they're not hooked up. This wiring set-up would send signals only to the cables that are connected to the speakers, and the receiver will totally ignore the cables not being used. The only question is would this loosen the connections over time. He he, if it weren't for my EE classes I would never had known much about wiring.

The one thing that I'm primarily trying to avoid is to NOT have to be movin speaker wire around each time I want to switch it up. The switch does look to be a good option, but I'm hesitant because if I do end up doing what I'm planning, I want to have 2 sets of fronts, and 2 centers. Craziness I know, but I've never been one for subtlety.........

The A/B option would be the best, but i have a question........and of course I'll have to check the specs of the receiver that I get, but generally speaking..........does the A/B switching apply to a complete second set of speaks (2 fronts, center, and 2 surrounds) or is it limited to just a few, like just 2 fronts.

The switchbox idea........I like it if I'm not gonna have the A/B option, but do any of y'all know of an A/B that has enough outs for 2 fronts AND a center? In my other post about this, Larry suggested Parasounds switch, but it only has outs for 2 fronts, and no center. He also mentioned Niles, but I haven't had a chance to go through what they offer.

Aside from these 2 options, y'all know of any that would work for at least the 2 fronts and the center?

    Muchas Gracias...............
