Why not buy a new, BStock or Reconditioned? Ecost has 2910's for $449...you'd be silly to buy used on most of the Denon units.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I'm hangen onto my 2900. It is a fine piece of electronics. Does everything better than any expectation I could have. Nice pick though on your end it it is worth any coin in my opinion.

    Good Luck.

How does the audio performance of 2910 compare with 2900. I don't have a HDTV so I'm not too keen on video.
My main purpose is for Mutichannel audio & CD playback.
    Any opinions.

    Hmmmmmm......

the 2900 has a 1790 BB DAC and the 2910 has the 1791. I'm sure there is some difference but can you hear it is the question.

I believe it simply has more video connectivity....DVI and HDMI. As far as sonic, I wouldn't expect it to be radically different at all.

Decision time. So is it safe to buy a refurbished Denon DVD-2910 or Denon 3910 from eCost.com or buy an open box from Crutchfiled that will cost me around $600 for 2910.

Why are you looking at Denon products exclusively? What is your intent... ...a Universal or something less?

I'm upgrading to LSi series. I already upgraded my fronts to LSi15.
I want a CDP or a universal player that can unleash the power of LSi speakers. I currently have cheap players all priced sub $150.
I feel that to take full advantage of LSi series speaker I need a player that justifys LSi upgrade
I'm open to any brand, any moded player but my budget is max $500.
If there are other comparable brand i would like to explore that option.

If its 2 channel only I would not bother at this point. You can by much cheaper at this point and put the coin into a preamp/amp stage.

Mr. Grand is selling a cd player in the fleamart... look there to kick start a wild ride.

I'm using Denon 3803 as preamp and Outlaw 770 amp. I use Denon PureDirect mode for 2 channel. I don't have the space for 2 channel so my options are limited.
I'm willing to invest in a preamp. What's a good 5.1 preamp for LSi series in $1500 range except the Outlaw 950? Parasound, Sheerwood, B&K etc.
I currently have Pioneer DV-578A that i use for multichannel DVD-A/SACD play back. But there aren't many multichannel audio that I like. 95% of the time its 2 channel.

a link for your viewing pleasure.

my wink... is that the outlaw amp is as good as any amp out there. it may not be in stereophile but is worth a buck too us critical listners. I have had the 770 for years and its as good as the stereophile brands. The 770 does not sound like a tube amp but that is a different game. The 770 is most relyable.

The 2900 will have much better audio performance compared to the 2910. The 3800 or 3910 have better audio, but the 3910 suffers from macro blocking and the 3800 had many problems, but most have been corrected through service and firmware updates.

I don't think you will find anyone that is willing to sell a 2900 for $400. Most paid close to $1000 for theirs. I found mine on closeout just a couple months ago for $600. If you can find a refurb for less than $500, go for it.

Another big difference between the 2900 and 2910 is the chasis. The 2900 is much more solid. I auditioned both and went with the 2900 bc of the overall sound quality in 2 channel--and I wouldn't consider my ears to be of audiophile quality. There's also a lot of aftermarket support for the 2900 if you decide to modify it down the road.

Just closed the deal for Denon DVD-2900 at Audigon. Can't wait to have it.
Hey I just noticed that its made in CHINA. I thought Denon's flagship players where made in JAPAN.
Can you guys check where yours made? Just to make sure that I'm not being fooled.

Although the 2900 is a very nice unit, its far from thier flagship. The flagship would be the DVD-9000, 5900, or current 5910, all of which go for more than $2000.

Yes my 2900 was made in China.

    db,

I have Denon DVD-3800..no SACD, just DVD-V and DVD-A. So, if you can get one (refurb) for $300 or so, that would be a deal. Just make sure that Build date is beyond Feb 2003, those are the one with all the fixes...although mine (build date: Oct 2002) has been performing flawlessly too.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.
