SD or HD DTV

Curious to know what format is more popular currently in the US, standard definition digital tv or high definition. Here in Aussie land we have had both formats for just over 1 year with hd playback in 5.1 Dolby digital with huge hassles in sound and picture. SD playback is ok in stereo mpeg. :confused:
