An Interesting Trade

I'm not sure this will ever happen again, but I've brokered a deal for a pair of Volterra that include a piece that I'm hoping will become an heirloom. It's a 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7. It has 76k miles on it and is in astounding condition. I went and saw it tonight and it does have a few issues - as expected with a car of this age - but I was blown away. The pictures below just don't do it justice. The color is original (paint is not) and has just enough pearl to it to really draw the eye. I've been hesitant to post this but all parties involved (this is a three-party trade at that!) are giddy about this deal.

I'd also like to thank my parents for dropping by tonight to give me a few hours away from my screaming kids. I needed the break more than I thought.

Nice Cougar, I have a 69 that has 34000 actual miles.

I'm quite smitten. The only thing that could've been better for me would've been a '64 Riviera.

Assuming this has been a Southwest car all its life, this should not be an issue. Make sure the torque boxes are sound and not rusted out. And just give the body the once over. If the paint is somewhat recent it could be to hide body work and imperfections. A fresh coat of white paint is great for hiding body issues.

1968 was the first model year that required collapsible steering wheels. Ford implemented horn rings to go with that initial design.
