Still waiting for you to name those production speakers that use carpet padding.

You will be waiting an awfully long time!

    Yep, because they don't exist.

Do you think roofing material makes excellent material for vibration control too?

Nothin' wrong that a little carpet padding wouldn't cure :|

Those who are bothered by the audible cabinet colorations of this particular model, and are looking for an easy fix should try replacing the poly-fiber batting with a product called rock wool.

Install a length-wise sheet(s) running from the top of the cabinet to the bottom of the mid-woofers frame.

You will need to experiment to see how many it will need.

It may or may not sufficiently fix it.

Being an inventor, engineer and presumably using the rock wool in your Monitor 5's one would think you'd be able to tell others exactly how much and whether or not it works because your last sentence leaves much doubt.

BTW, what happened to your highly recommended carpet padding?

Assumptions have a way of leading one astray! I used fiberglass in mine, but DO NOT try this yourselves!

Industrial carpet pad + rubber cement is for constraint-layer damping!

So, you used neither rock wool or carpet padding, yet recommended both. Ummmm......you're not doing your credibility any favors. In fact, I'd have to say you have none.

Rockwool is a very good medium for growing pot hydroponically.

And woven hemp can be used to make speaker cones, cabinets and damping material. Smoking the leftovers will convince you they actually sound good. :p

    Constrained layer damping, perhaps?

Actually roofing felt and rock wool have been used by British speaker designers for many years, also raw (uncombed) wool has the benefit of random fiber densities absorbing a wider range of frequencies than synthetic materials.
The DIY magazine Speaker Builder has lots of people using different materials with success.

I like my Missions, but they use traditional poly fill rather than the stuff you (SoundMann1) are talking about.

True that wool felt of various kinds is useful in some enclosures; long fiber wool is a common recommendation for stuffing TQWTs, I know. Rockwool still shows up in the high sensitivity arena as a lining material.

I don't know about small monkey coffin type enclosures, though -- especially when loaded with a PR.

If you had to bury a rather large monkey would that require an ape coffin?
