I put new meters in one of my amps and new bulbs in the other. I also bought new blue filters for the meters but haven't put those in to change the color to match the newer LED versions. There are also LED retrofit kits available.

How hard is it to put in new VU meters?

I run my SRS’s with a mac MC300. I don’t believe I have ever hit the 300 mark on the vu’s. They are rated pretty conservative as far as the ratings. More headroom would be nice but the blade/blade won’t run a dreadnaught. I did all the upgrades and vr3 crossovers and the whole setup sounds awesome.

Sorry, replacing the vu meters was pretty simple. Take out screws on the ends of the front panel, lay down on its face and a couple screws on each meter. Done.

I think I have more of a problem. Only the left head sink is getting warm. The right stays cold to the touch.

left and right channel separation seems to work though when doing a tone test.

My guess is that the McIntosh would flatten that Carver in any kind of competition, although I don’t know a ton about Carver. The one piece that I heard of theirs sounded pretty bad, compared to a NAD 2060 (I think, I don’t quite remember, this was about a year ago).

    Keep what you have....seriously.

As for the heat imbalance, the amp likely needs the bias adjusted. It would be best to not use it until you have it serviced.

The closest I have to that comparison would be when I brought home an MC2500 to replace a Carver TFM45 to run my 1.2tl's. The Carver got sold shortly afterward as the difference between the 2 was not subtle. The Mac just plain dominated the Carver in all categories to my ears. FWIW I also have a MC2125 which happens to be my favorite amp to drive my 105db sensitive Klipsch Khorns. It's an excellent amp and I think you'll be pleased with it's performance on your Polks. As F1nut mentioned and I agree all watts are not created equal.

Ya I'm not a big carver fan but there not even in the same ball park as mcintosh. Like F1nut said you need to have the bias adjusted. I'm betting the left channel has drifted high. Replace those xovers and tune up that amp and you might just be amazed. Ther is a lot to improve in the sda's, but once done you should be more than pleased. Congrats on that deal also.

    Arggggg!!!

Just got the McIntosh MC2125 back from service. Next step is LED mod and new face place to get rid of the bubbles. Haven't heard it on the SDA SRS yet. I need someone to help me get them in the house. Garage is as far as they got. Neighbor offered to help till he tried to move one. "What, I don't think so" he says.

That was like going to your birthday and finding out everyone decided to go play golf instead.

Got a helper coming when he can find time eventually.

    Oh the frustration.

Glad I have the SDA 1B to listen to at least.

Eight year old daughter is in bliss now and stopped playing the PlayStation to sit and listen with me instead. I think I'm in trouble down the road with daughter and now I want more McIntosh.

I can see rehab in my future.
