This guy's version of an old Fleetwood Mac song was pretty good.
(my apologies if this was mentioned before -- I just thumbed back through the thread, but I didn't see it)

Not that The Feats' version isn't great, but Robert Palmer's cover (part of a trilogy - or is it a tryptych? - of covers) is pretty great, too:

I absolutely love the idea of this thread, but I guess my lack of musical knowledge ruins it for me. Many of the songs listed I didn't know were covers so I have no reference point as to the original artist.

FWIW: Motley Crue "Smokin in the Boys Room" > Brownsville Station

Also love Tesla's version of "Signs"

    I don't know who did Viva Las Vegas first but;

I like Elvis's version a lot but ZZ TOP knocked it out of the park for me with their version. To hear ZZ TOPs version on Polks RT3000Ps is something to hear to be believed. That bass.... B) <3

    Lyrics
    Bright light city
    Gonna set my
    Soul
    Gonna set my
    Soul on fire
    There's a whole
    Lot a money just
    Ready to burn so
    Get those stakes
    Up higher
    There's a
    Thousand pretty
    Women just
    Waitin' out there
    They're all livin'
    Devil may care
    And I'm just the
    Devil with love to
    Spare
    Viva Las Vegas
    Viva Las Vegas
    How I wish that
    There were more
    Than 24 hours in
    A day
    But even if there
    Were 40 more I
    Wouldn't sleep a
    Minute away
    There's blackjack,
    Poker and the
    Roulette wheel
    A fortune won
    And lost on
    Every deal
    All you need is
    Money and
    Nerves of steel
    Viva Las Vegas
    Viva Las Vegas
    Viva Las Vegas
    With your neon
    Flashing
    And your
    One-armed
    Bandits crashing
    All your
    Hopes down the
    Drain
    Viva Las Vegas
    Turning day into
    Night time turnin'
    'Night into day
Time if you've seen it once you'll
    Never be the
    Same again
    Gonna keep on
    The run
    I'm gonna have
    Me some fun
    If it costs me
    My very last
    Dime
    If I wind up
    Broke well I'll
    Always remember
    That I had a
    Swinging time
    I'm gonna give it
    Everything I got
    Lady Luck won't
    You let the dice
    Stay hot
    Let me shoot a
    Seven with every
    Shot
    Viva Las Vegas
    Viva Las Vegas
    Viva Las Vegas
    Viva Viva
    Las Vegas
    Busted
    Solo out
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Many/most (albeit not all of Elvis' hits (and his epochal non-hits, too) were covers. Please note that I don't mean this statement as a criticism :)

    e.g.,

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/That's_All_Right

And, in the matter of Chuck Berry...

... and, while not exactly a cover, the Beach Boys (Brian Wilson) borrowed rather liberally (ahem) from Chuck. Liberally enough that Mr. Berry did, eventually, get co-writing credit on the song :)

These nice boys have been known to perform a pretty remarkable cover version of a rather well-known John Lennon (a/k/a "Dr. Winston O. Boogie") song.
