Which System Do You Miss The Most?

What system that you built and tuned in do you miss the most? I'm talking personal systems, not someone else's.

I'm asking because I was reminiscing about my old room and really miss the intimacy my 'last' system had prior to jumping into the dealer world. It definitely wasn't my best system (nowhere near at this point), but it was a great system that I wouldn't mind having again in a smaller bedroom. So, here it is:

Speakers: Usher Mini-X
Amplifier: Shuguang 845 monoblocks
Preamplifier: Shuguang s200mk
DAC: Essence HDACC
Source: DIY computer
Cables: Audioquest Carbon USB, PNF Audio ICs/SCs, Pangea AC-14se PCs
DIY Acoustic Panels

I miss this system because I had worked over a handful of years to really dial it in and put in a lot of effort and savings to make big purchases for it. At the time, I was finishing college and generated money for the system by flipping gear, saving birthday and Christmas money, and some good poker winnings.

It was a system built on sweat and many nights were spent researching to figure out where the 'next best thing' was going to be. I realized my system had essentially reached a milestone when I replaced the Essence with a Chord Hugo - definitely a MUCH superior DAC and I could actually hear it, but it didn't outperform the Essence in my system.

In a way, I guess it was like trading speed for handling and I had the balance so well down that even though the engine was better and stronger, lap times were slower due to the lost handling.

I'll probably have a pair again soon. I've got a plethora of monitors now so why not have more? I need to bring in the X and the N6300 so I've got some from the low fours to the five figure range.

I don't miss any of my old gear really... sometimes I miss my vinyl collection... but I quit that narcotic...

a few pieces I've had are worth exponentially more now than when I owned them.... in that regard I miss that I didn't hang on to fully capitalize on their increased value.... but then again as stated above.... had I not continually been improving my set ups over the years I wouldn't have the rig I do now which is really leaps and bounds better than any previous system or combination of components I've had....

I would love to have my RTA11Ts back. Although I do LOVE my SDA 2Bs the placement isn't ideal so it causes some issues. Like you Skip I am going to the intimacy and emotion in music over anything else. Trying to accomplish that will take some time and patience but it is a journey I am excited to be on.

I had assembled a pretty nice system by the early 80's: AR-LST speakers (check them out if you don't know what they are); S.A.E. preamp and S.A.E. metered amp; and a Denon DP-75 platter with a SME arm. I had to sell it when I went back to school in '84, (actually traded in the speakers for some smaller ones when I moved to a very small space shortly before that.) I really regret not hanging onto those AR-LST speakers especially. They are unobtainable now and arguably the best speakers AR ever made. I was considered extremely fortunate to have purchased them from a guy who owned a head shop/record shop when he got divorced and they sounded heavenly in the right space with the right gear. I have a Denon DP-72 platter now and an arm that exceeds the SME, and also better amplification, but that system in the early 80's took me years to acquire in small steps and lots of blood, sweat and tears. Got back into audio seriously in the early 90's - then I ran into you guys! Lol.

I miss my VTL 2.5 preamp with NOS Mullard tubes. Best pre I've ever owned but I simply couldn't hang on to it at the time. I also miss my Von Schweikert VR2 floorstanding speakers. Those were amazing speakers and I believe they'd sound ridiculously good in the new apartment.

At this point, none. I am in love with my current system. Soon, I will be upgrading my Typhon to the new Typhon QR, and later this summer to the new Lumin X1. Depending on how that goes, I then might be missing this system, but I doubt it.

I have throughly enjoyed all my past gear, but don’t really miss it. Then again, for the last ten years some of my stereo gear has gone into the HT, so it really isn’t being missed. :)
