I have LED's in there... Might change them to cool blue... and I have the vellum to replace. I am going to put it on the bench and have a look.... The lamp holders get a little brittle and I saw a guy who makes a replacement on a 3d printer.

sure it has a flat response, and sure it has a lot of detail, and yes, it has good and clear lows. But is it enjoyable to listen to? Does it make you grin ear to ear? That’s what really matters.

Just a quick question, I know some of the 2xxx series receivers and gear came both black face. champagne and of course silver face. Are any of these worth more to a perspective buyer. I found this listing of a bunch of Japanese makers. they list value, going prices and rarity. A cool site you got to check it out.

I use that site for reference all the time it is great but it doesn't get updated. But then most of the things on there are 35+ years old so what's to update...

So a few receivers had black faces and seem to be more rare. I suppose if they are original and in comparable condition the black face receivers would be worth more. There are a some aftermarket black faces available too. I saw one guy makes a black face for the 2270 that looks great but I am not sure what it might do to the value.

From a collectible standpoint as original as possible will bring more value and certainly functionality would increase or decrease value.

Like any good audio component they are heavy and shipping them around is costly and somewhat risky.

When you have one in fine working condition they sound great and the aesthetics are off the charts (imho).

Finding someone who can do it and shipping it will add a lot to your cost. The rebuild and restore with shipping on mine easily exceeded what I paid for it.

I saw one on the bay yesterday for like $700 bucks that was in very nice shape that also came with a parts 6300.... I remember having a Philips GA 312 during the late 70's early 80's which at the time was a technological marvel with it's heat sensing controls. I didn't see many of those around on the auctions.

Hey Mickey, I know $700 for an old Marantz TT sounds like a lot, why not spend twice or three times that on a proper TT from that era. A Thorens 125MKII with a SME arm, Shure V15 of your choice will look gorgeous next to the Marantz and sound unreal. It's mid century modern looks with that in yo face 1970's glitz will not only a looker, but sound unreal!
    1Jgrq8e.jpg

I've owned mine since 1977, a new belt every other year and a sip of oil for the motor, it will out live me. Synergy can be your friend, these componets were built to be the best in their day, a vintage showpiece system should be just that. Have fun, enjoy~!

Wow that is a sweet TT.... I remember as a kid my friend/neighbors dad had a Thorens... not that one... but we weren't even allowed to touch it. Hey used to play Lionel Hampton records on it as I remember. There was another clanky Garrard automatic that we were allowed to use in a Motorola Hi-Fi console that we used to stack 45's on and use....

I was thinking a vintage TT for that rig and was considering putting it on top of the case of the Marantz but now with the new case I would have to come up with another idea. Yesterday when I got chased inside by a thunderstorm I listened to Tidal streamed music to the 2385 and the SDA 2.3's and said to my self... "If I had this rig in 1980 the babes would have to take a number". My rig back them was

Onkyo receiver with the quartz lock tuner
Polk Monitor 5 B's (still have)
    Philips GA 312 TT
Nakamichi ZX7 3 head cassette deck (wish I still had) Made GREAT tapes.

I received and installed the new lamp housing today. I opted for a reproduction part as opposed to a vintage part as these would be old and brittle like the one I had which was falling apart. The new one is made of ABS plastic on a 3D printer. Pretty easy replacement and it fit perfectly. The dial is now as nice as I have seen it with no light leakage and a beautiful blue glow. The unit is now as functionally and cosmetically to my liking as I think I can get it to. Runs cool and sounds AMAZING!!! Worth the expense and effort IMHO.
