    Ohhhh, they announced today.

    Sorry.

Maybe they should've done a trade-up sales program if sales were dying.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Tesla is never going to make it according to the USA Today.

Maybe the government should subsidize Oppo the same way the subsidize Tesla...

Sad news indeed - I’ve been so happy with Oppo I haven’t even been keeping up with what other companies are doing. I always had great luck with Denon, prior to becoming an Oppo customer. I definitely need SACD and DVD Audio support...

    That would be nice.

A lot of people don't buy disc anymore. Everything has to stream. Me I like my audio and video quality. I have well over 1,000 DVD's and Blu-Ray, so I am keeping my spinners. Oh so I have to get up and change a disc, well bummer it will help stop the blood clot. People ask when they come over why am I still using disc? I'll toss on a Blu-Ray and then it's "when did you get a 4k TV?" A lot of things are getting too simple and easy at the suffering of quality.

I like my Oppo BDP-93, good player and it's Cinavia free too ( backup everything I buy). I did pick up a Sony UDP-X800 over Christmas time for $150, it's a good player with great streaming but I like my Oppo's audio and picture better on my non 4k TV.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

Such a bummer. Grew to have quite the affinity for the brand.

On the flip side, I understand with the growing popularity of streaming.

Couldn’t they grow other parts of the business? How are the headphones compared to competitors?

I agree that the physical media is better. I think that applies to music playback as well but the convenience of having an entire library at my fingertips ready to go instantly is just too tempting to pass up.

I am rather fond of my weird disc, HDCD, DVD-A, Blew Ray audio and some SACD. Not to mention all of my various format concert type disc. I will be PO'd if I outlast my universal players. Maybe I should get some spares? I sure like Mofi SACD's but I doubt I would buy more at this juncture.

Streaming sucks. Physical media is always best, but too many want convenience because they are flat out lazy, not to mention stupid enough to be duped into dumping their physical media. No wonder this country has so many fat people.

I'll agree with you for the most part. That part being that streaming sucks. It has it's place. Obviously it's not a replacement, but I wouldn't go as far as it flat out sucks.

Hard to argue with that, lol.

I'll only stream music files, video....I keep the physical media. I keep the cd's too, just store them away. I don't buy files over the internet like some do.

I wish I could still find CDs anywhere, I’m stuck with my two least favorite Garth brooks albums and *shudder* meatloaf.
I’m also stuck with a cheap Sony DVD player, by the time that I upgrade that will there’s even really be such thing as a DVD player? Even used?
I agree that streaming is no good. If only I had another option.

I like my UDP-800, but I was considering getting an upgrade and Oppo was at the top of the list... Should I wait till the last minute and get one with the latest firmware update or forget the idea all together?

I could not agree more. First off, by owning the CD/DVD, I am free to loan it to whomever I want, and/or sell it, should I desire (the record companies/studios HATE this aspect of physical media). Second, no matter what happens to my electronic storage device(s), I still posses the means to enjoy my media - and I’m not just talking about me **** up my storage - think Photobucket, in terms of the music/ movie domain....”In order to provide you the best music/movie service possible, please subscribe to Apple Archive, for only $400 per year, to continue enjoying your iTunes library” (fictitious I know, but tell me you couldn’t see it happening...)

I was on the pre-order list for an Oppo 203, and was one of the first to have one. It has worked since day one, and firmware updates are automatic and painless.

Kinda my point... None of my components are connected to the internet whatsoever, I prefer using a disk or flash drive for updates.

Remember the old DIVX players, that required you to keep them plugged into a telephone line so that they could phone home occasionally?

Yeah, hated that idea, so I found one that was stand alone. It didn't last long, the transport gave up on it. The want/need for such a player lasted about the same, so I called it a wash. My PC took care of anything in that realm from then on.
