Not that I know of, it appears to just be Shunyata's entry level cable. From what I can tell, it's just a nice 14awg cable meant for anything with an IEC inlet. I believe most generic cords are 18awg so it should be quite a bit beefier.

    From the Shunyata website:

"Ideally suited for use with Blu-ray players, flat screen televisions, portable devices, power bricks and a host of other components."

Also, the specs point to it being A-OK for high current draw applications:

    "CURRENT RATINGS
    – Max continuous current: 20 Amps (connector dependent)
    – Max instantaneous current: >200 Amps (800ms)"

Isn't the Venom 14 meant for source components? I'm not that familiar with their model hierarchy.

Did you read the Shunyata technical article on DTCD at
    http://shunyata.com/technical-articles/

This is based on the Venom3, which I believe is the one I bought. Hopefully, the new Venoms are better. :)

I've got two of the 9SE, but never heard the 9. Have both the 14 and 14SE, but I've never heard the 14XL. Did you ever use the 14XL before you became an audio snob? I'm just messing with you!! I wish I could do a walk-through at your house!

Okay, I see. My AVR originally came with a cable smaller than the one on my hairdryer.

Is it the Venom HC that replaced the Venom 3?

Yes, I believe you're right on the money there, it appears to be the successor. The HC must be designed for those 200wpc+ amps.

My monoblocks are only 50wpc, so I think (hope?) that they will be just fine with the 14awg.

The Venom3 was the only Venom power cable at that time, which was around 2012 for me. You could get it with 20 amp connectors, which I needed for the CA amps, and Pangea didn’t offer that connector. I did have Pangea AC-14 on everything else back then.

I'm going into these power cable upgrades with a HEALTHY dose of skepticism. I keep thinking to myself "No way a POWER CABLE can make things sound different/better than they already do...".

    We shall soon see!

When I joined here, I couldn't wrap my head around how a power cable could effect the sound. I thought of it as a component is either getting power or not. If it's getting power, than it's functioning as it should. But even listening to music through an AVR, I could hear a difference.

Good for you. I too was a skeptic. After all, 120 volts is 120 volts, right? Wrong!! LOL

as seen on Another Forum -- apparently disagreements over the raw materials used in cables dates back farther than one might have thought:

Just think -- were there no Internet, I'd never have known this.

I haven't. There is a difference in sound, that much I know. I haven't heard the 9SE, but I wasn't a huge fan of the 9 after I heard other cables. It's a good starting point in the PC world. My biggest issue is the SQ isn't worth the hassle of hooking them up.

I have had both the 14 and 14SE and I know there were big improvements between those two, so maybe the 9 and 9SE would have a similar jump that would make it worthwhile.

I'm wondering what component you had those 9's hooked to that they didn't sound good?? I've just dipped my toe in the entry power cable pool and this inquiring mind is very curious :)

I didn't say they sounded bad, just that they didn't sound good enough to warrant the struggle. It was a definite upgrade over stock, but once I heard other cables around the same price (with similar or better gains) and had no difficulty with installation, I quickly had no desire to ever use the 9 again.

Believe it or not, they will impart their own signature onto the sound. Pangea will have a slightly rolled off top end that integrates well into most systems. I don't like their AC-9 but loved the AC-14SE. Wireworld is neutral in presentation and won't shift the tonal balance of your system much, if at all.

I cut and pasted your reply from the other cable thread. I asked the same question of what component you had the 9's hooked up to in the other thread because of the rolled off top end you claimed
I can certainly understand and I agree with you on not recommending them because they're a major pita to work with. I think the only way they could be used with a lighter weight component is if it had an anvil sitting on top of it. It would also be damn near impossible to try to snake a 9 into a rack. I would have to say a lower radiator hose on a Mack truck has more flexibility :)
