Can anybody tell me what model this is, and specs?

Came with the house. Driving it with a 30 yr old Yamaha R8 (85watt per), love them but am considering driving with a 55 watt sonas amp. Will it be too wimpy..5dczgrotcx4d.jpeg
Thanks in advance

Those are the original RTA 12 with the Peerless tweeter. They need to be on stands to get the tweeter at ear level.

Are you talking about the Sonos Connect that weighs in at 5 pounds? I would not use that, the Yamaha undoubtedly has a more robust power supply.

Stick with the Yamaha R8. That receiver looks beefy and capable. If it gets hot, you need to get more power.

thanks all, for your input. Very valid point re weight of power supplies, makes sense for old tech electronics, but I'm not too familiar with the new designs. Thanks for the spec, speakers might be quite efficient with a lower power amp. Damn, still a crap shoot. cheers

Yup, Dilithium Crystals are needed. ;)

Seriously now, those are supposed to be great stereo speakers from what I've read..

So based on the speaker system design, is the general thinking these units need a fair amount of power to drive them to reasonably high volume levels?

My Yamaha unit at 80 watts is plenty for my needs, so my dilemma to wifi enable this room is either use the 30 year old unit rated conservatively at 80, add a wifi unit to it (and hope it hangs in there for a few more years) or go to a new 55 watt wifi amplifier unit set up for this purpose.

The ad above (from April 1979 Audio magazine) shows the stands that I remember for them.

FWIW, I didn't much care for them when they were on the market (i.e., compared to the 5, 7 and 10). Too much of something, relative to my taste. (again, strictly my opinion, and strictly FWIW).

They look(ed) cool, though, no doubt.

Look at that efficiency level in the ad! 96dbs. :oB)

That Yamaha is definitely capable and maybe even that amp you're looking at getting will be too. 96 dbs. is Klipsch territory.

But you still have your Polk LF 14's, sort of the same config., sans tweeters? :)

Nope, I don't -- hadn't used it for many years (sat in the basement for a couple of decades at least) and arranged to donate it to Polk (some years back) via Dorokusai. Long gone.

I took lotsa photos of it before taking it to MD.
Like the OP's RTA12, the foam on the PR was delaminating. No audible impact, though (at least at the point in time I sent them on their way).
