Doing some urban renewal on the ol' Frankenaltecs today -- I've had my dump find JBL 275 drivers/H5040 horns on line for the past week or so, just for fun (mostly). While the EMILARs were off line, I took the liberty of touch-up painting the patches of bare metal on them (and they do look better, IMO & FWIW).

Today, I put the EMILARs back. As long as I was doing anything, I also decided to install the nice pair of Altec 802D drivers I have (which I got from DNewma04 at AK, by the way and if memory serves) on 'em -- taking advantage of the gen-u-ine 1" to 2" EMILAR throat adaptors I picked up sometime last year from Jammin' Jersey (which, rather ironically, is in Southern California).

As long at the 2441s were loose, I thought it would be fun and even sort of worthwhile to snap a few pictures -- just an opportunity to compare the beefy 1" throat JBL 275 driver with the profoundly beefier 2" throat JBL 2441 driver. In a coupla photos, I tossed in a 2A3 for a sense of scale (more interesting than a ruler -- especially with the chance that a rogue 2441 might decide to steamroll the poor, innocent 2A3!).

Herewith, photos -- strictly FYI & FWIW. :)

    Insightful, laughs, and like.
Still having a hard time with scale. Would those terminals be similar to the size of 5-way binding posts?
If so, good God, man, where do you put these things, and... well, {hushed} how do they sound?
    I disabled signatures.

Yes, similar to a normal binding post (a little smaller).
At my house, it is (sometimes) easier to find a 2A3 than a ruler :|

So, the 2441's about 6 inches in diameter. It weighs 25 lbs according a spec sheet available on line (see link below). I actually think these are heavier than that (but, no, I haven't weighed one -- yet).

16 ohm drivers with sensitivity spec'd at 111 dB per watt at 1 meter (installed on a JBL 2350 horn). Analogous to Rolls-Royce's old horsepower specification, that seems adequate.

    specs: http://www.jblpro.com/pub/obsolete/2441.pdf

How do they sound? Both of these drivers sound good.
