Audio Control Pre and amps

Hello all,
Has anyone else used the Audio Control Pre or amps for theater? I think they got something going on as we sell them frequently and I have been slightly impressed but not over the top.
The reason I think is the preamp is amazingly strange to setup and slightly difficult to use.
Control is fine after setup and I guess thats what matters most.
Price wise they are on the more expensive side but I'm not exactly sure if I'm all the way in, on the fence or just wanting something new so I'm digging.
We carry the receivers as well and they again are very nice dynamic to a point but something is holding me back from loving them.
I'm strongly considering bringing one home and just test driving it for myself and see if there is any B&K like or NAD life that I could breath into my system.
