I tried to give some advice today. Makes you wonder what people are thinking!

I wandered into Nebraska Furniture Mart this afternoon, just looking around. NFM now carries Anthem, Revel, SVS, and will soon have Mark Levinson. They also have Polk, Klipsch, JBL, Marantz, Pioneer/Onkyo, Yamaha, Sony, Sonus, Blusound and many others, I can’t remember them all.

So I bought The Beatles (White Album) RM 180g Vinyl.

As I was looking at the records, a father and two teen boys, maybe 15 and 17, came to the record aisle. One teen was carrying a Crosley record player in a box. The price on the box was $45.99. They started looking at the new vinyl LP’s. The father asked me about prices and I said you have to use the barcode scanner on the front of the shelves. He had an album to scan and it was around $24.99. He then asked me if these were 78’s, I politely said, “no I don’t think they make them anymore”. He then asked about the smaller ones, and I said 45’s?, he said yes. I said they don’t sell them here.
I told them these new 180g records would not be a good choice for that $45 record player. I turned them around and pointed to the counter with an AT-120 and Pro-Ject III turntable. I told them these tables would be a good entry into vinyl as they would do less harm to these new records. I also said the record player his son was carrying would be like a lathe and if he intends to use that table to buy used records at Half-Price Books, thrift shops or several used record stores.

Is this part of the current mindset of today? We wonder why it’s quiet here.

See!?! When I buy crap, at least I know I'm buying crap. People now just don't want to know, and with today's Amazon mentality, "all products are the same" so just buy the cheapest... they all do the same thing, right?? :s

LOL....a lathe to those good records. That's about right. Sad though, everything is about the sale, not education.
