I don't much talk to folks in real life...

I just **** canned my fiance for real. It is over for real.

My real and only friends are spread pretty thin. Who do you talk to??? Not that I necessarily need to deal to toxic people... I have to stop now.

I keep a few close friends that have been there through all the ups and downs and share with them. I'm slow making new ones. Recently stopped dating a woman because it was going nowhere and was tired of the mounting drama.

I like easy. I'm for going through life with little stress and strain. I like to see the humor in things and would much prefer to laugh in a serious situation than be serious in a laughing one.

You need a hug? Come on, bring it in let me give you a hug, bud.

Don't feel bad about not having many friends. I can say that my 7 month old dog has more friends than I. I'm about quality not quantity. As for the love side, I'm not in a position to comment been with my wife for 19 yrs.

I've realized as I get older my circle of "friends" gets smaller. Many people that come into your life are more acquaintances than real friends. Be open to all of them, though, and the right one will come along that you can speak with honestly and openly, without judgment.

If one were to go through my phone to try and measure my life by the amount of people listed as contacts, they would see the majority of my phone numbers are businesses/doctors followed by forum members (many of whom I’ve met once if ever), and lastly I family and friends made through normal life.

I don’t have a ton of friends outside here either and that’s ok. Like @kharp1 I keep it simple. My real friends are few but mighty, which is how I like it. The kind of folks you don’t have to tell whats up or how your feeling because they know you well enough to read you without a word being said.

I think most men have only a handful of people who they call friends. That is someone who they trust enough to talk to or get advise about something they consider serious or very personal.

There may be many, or few, in their lives that they are friendly with, but not on the same level as a select few. may be a subtle difference between the two, but it is still well defined.

For instance a person you're friendly with, you may invite to stay in the spare bedroom for a weekend, because their on vacation or the HVAC went out. You wouldn't stay up all night and call in sick the next day because he or she needs to talk about some serious issue in his or her life. That would be the difference, at least in my mind, between being a person whom I was friendly with and a friend.

That said I have about three people I consider friends.

I'm sure this is not a great time in your life right now but you'll pull through and hopefully life will be better for you because of the split. When I enter a new chapter in my life I'm always "lost" for a bit but then things become clear and I feel normal again...hang in there.

I hate to hear of anyone's sadness and breaking up with someone that was supposed to be your life partner can't be easy. Better at this stage than to have been married that's a fact!! You will be in my prayers brother as many of our fellow members prayers here, and please hang in there as someone is out there that you will be happy with. Good and bad in every relationship and it's just a matter of how much crap can either put up with as every relationship has some, If someone claims that's just not true, they are liars! Give and take, take and give. There's a thin line between love and hate. Wife and I have been together 34 years and married 23 of those years. Roller Coaster?? You Bet!! But making them vows was something we take and took very serious so we still are in love and it gets better. You say it's over.....is this the first time you said that? How many years were you together?? Maybe eat some crow and see a specialist and work through whatever it is or was to get ya to this place?? If she's worth it to you, you will do whatever it takes? Hopefully (if this is it) there are no children involved as they usually end up feeling that wrath more than the parents? I wish you all the best and like I said, in my prayers.

As others have said, better now, than after the ring goes on. It hurts like h e l l, but a lot less than the other.
As for "friends", they're easy to acquire, true friends are hard to come by.
Two old saying come to mind:
A friend will help you move, a true friend will help you move........a body.
A friend will bail you out of jail, a true friend will be in the cell with you saying "d**n that was awesome!".
My true friends, I can count on one hand.

I don't need a boat load of friends, just a handful of really good ones. Nobody measures your life's worth by the amount of FB friends you have either....though some may think otherwise.

He's usually nestled in a couple blankets for those late night listening sessions. And yeah he woofs at me, I guess he talks back a little bit.

  • Sorry to hear about a breakup, but glad to hear that it was by your choice......

My wife and I consider each other as best friends, going on 25 yrs. next May. This is partly due to us truly enjoying being around each other, but long ago, we realized that most couples have real issues with each other and my wife hates it when a "friend" only wants to discuss how miserable she is with her husband, as many of them tend to do. They seem to just tolerate each other at best and our relationship is too good to waste time with dysfunctional couples. We tend to keep to ourselves, to keep the drama low and just grow old together taking care of our 5 kids and 9 Gkids so far.
